Carousel Inn?

Have a standard room booked at Carousel Inn for DW & I in late Sept / early Oct. It's refundable, so I have time to change my mind. Pictures and reviews look good on tripadvisor. Anybody been? Opinions? Thanks much.

I personally haven't stayed but have searched most of the Good Neighbor Hotels and this one everyone raves about. Apparently they have a suite that faces the park (Harbor Blvd) which lets you view fireworks when not in the park. By reviews read they also have the better free breakfast.
I know from staying on Harbor it's not a far walk from the crosswalk where you get to the parks so another plus. I don't think you can go wrong but if you'd like pictures and reviews you can do a search on this forum AND you can go to tripadvisor.com and check it out there.

I just booked a visit there yesterday for our trip in October after many hours of comparing!!LOL! I hope it is a great stay!

I did not enjoy my stay there. Mainly b/c it was a solo trip and the motel factor (room doors on the outside of the building) made me nervous, but also b/c a late night shower to ease muscles caused steam and the steam caused the smoke detectors to go off, and no one cared about it enough to come up to see what was going on or help me turn the alarm off (I called down to let them know what was going on). And that was the night of the Monte Carlo fire, which the front desk guy mentioned, but they STILL didn't care enough to check it out.

I do, however, like their sister hotel, the Anabella. Even though it's nowhere near as close.

For years the Carousel has been my favorite off site hotel. I've always had great service, clean and comfy rooms. Loved starting my day overlooking the park in their breakfast room.

The only reason it is not top on my list anymore is their $15 parking fee. They only started charging that last year and I haven't stayed there since.

I got my reservation through bookit.com, which was one of the quotes provided by tripadvisor.com. Anyway, the quote says "Rate includes free parking, a $10 value." So, did they raise it to $15 recently? Sounds awfully high.

BTW, the rate from bookit.com was less than half the rates from other consolidators, and considerably less than Carousel's web site. $64/day including parking. I'm just hoping that it's a reasonable place to stay. If it's a dump, I'll go to Fairfield Anaheim, that has rooms for my dates at $97. Is it worth it to change to Fairfield, or is Carousel just (or almost) as nice?

I haven't stayed at Fairfield, so no comparison there, but no, I wouldn't call Carousel Inn a dump by any means. Some people might not prefer it for different reasons, but I've always had good experiences there. Before we started staying at Hojo's, we always stayed at the Carousel Inn. The rooms were nice, clean, and the beds are so comfortable. I'd stay there again if Hojo's wasn't available. We prefer to go there because of the indoor corridors, and the great water play area.

We have stayed there and liked it a lot. One of the closest walking distance hotels and it is clean and fine, and it sounds like you got a really great price. I don't think you have any reason to make a switch. Have fun!

I think for the rate you got, you'll be fine! We used to always stay here. Parking has been a problem at times and the elevator was really slow and then one time we were in the end building with no elevator (2nd floor) with a stroller. Not too happy about that. Breakfast is fine and the walk is great! Rooms were decent and I think they've remodeled since we last stayed there. I would stick with the reso! We now stay at HoJo's but mainly because we always get the entertainment rate and my kids LOVE the pool area! I do like the closer proximity of Carousel though and the fact they offer a continental breakfast!

Have stayed at both fairfield and recently at Carosel. Carousel is nice for it's proximity but not appreciably different than the fairfield. The management seemed a little understaffed and we waited to check in and check out, but we enjoyed our stay. parking was $17.50 for three days and we got a decent rate on expedia. For $65 I'd sleep in a van across the street from Disneyland.

Sorry, bad memory. Just checked their website and the parking fee is $5. Not sure why I remembered it as $15?

We stayed at the Carousel in March this year and totally enjoyed our stay.

The room was clean and comfy. The fridge is oversized. The bathroom was clean and had a nice big vanity.

The free breakfast is not fancy, but adequate. They have 4 kinds of cereal, milk, juice, coffee and tea. There were apples and oranges. Bread, butter and jelly for toast. There were an assortment of donuts and pastries. None of these are fancy...but it gives you a good start for the day.

The location is GREAT! So close to the crosswalk.

I have stayed at HoJo and the Fairfield....I like them all...including the Carousel. I would happily stay there again...especially for the killer rate you got!

We are staying there in November .... I had a similar post not to long ago . We reserved the suite looking at Disneyland.... I cant wait and by that time I will have a half sleeve of the pirates of the Caribbean tattoo on my left are ... I hope I can show it off lol

I stayed there the end of September and thought the motel was great. Great walking distance to the parks and close enough to food locations.

I stayed there in january, and also loved it.
I requested a room in the seperate building though, it was much quieter as not as many people walking past or above you. the only concern for some people would be that the seperate building does not have an elevator (lift? not sure what you call it in the US) as its only one level up.
i thought the beds were comfy and although the breakfast wasnt fancy, is was certainly nice to not have to buy food each morning.
I would stay there again, especially as by the end of a long day, i wouldnt want to walk much further!!!

We took our entire "blended" family to Disneyland for Christmas 2006 and stayed at the Carousel. I was not imipressed. We had three rooms, our bathroom was not clean and even after pointing this out to the housekeeping staff, it did not improve. I'd certainly not recommend it. Have stayed at the Tropicana & the Candy Cane and much prefer either of those two.

I was very impressed with the maintenance staff (responded to my complaint within 5 minutes), and very unimpressed with the housekeeping staff, too. A couple of times we went back to the room for an afternoon break, and the room was still not made at 3 PM. Not that big a deal, except the cleaning staff didn't seem to care. Found one housekeeper on our floor - she claimed it wasn't her room, and went back to what she was doing. It was only when I found a maintenance guy on the same floor that he called around, found the person who was assigned to our room, and got her there.

I shouldn't have been surprised that the cleanliness issue didn't improve when I saw the condition of the toilet brush the maid had! It was worn down to nearly nothing; hardly a bristle left on the thing.

Consider yourselves lucky---the last time (and I do mean LAST) time I stayed there about a year ago OTHER people's soapy shower water repeatedly backed up into our tub...and calls to maintenance never produced anybody..luckily it was the last day so I only had to wash my legs separately in the sink once I did get a small reimbursement on my bill for that though.
