Went to Seaworld today, as we’ve only got the one day ticket I try to explain that we’ll need to get moving to get everything done, We arrive and head straight for the dolphin feeding section, great fun and they’re all really lively, jumping up to get the fish, what a rip off though, charging $5 per tray of three fish to feed their animals! Still, the kids enjoyed it. Spent about half an hour here before admiring these lovely creatures underwater then going off to laugh at the manatees (sorry manatee lovers, they’re just the strangest looking creatures in the world) we then caught the first of several shows that day, at the dolphin and whale show, it was very good but obviously no Shamu! And I’m sorry I’m just not impressed by people high diving and swinging around on enormous bungee ropes. A wander around the Penguin encounter followed – so sweet!, Callum insisted on buying a toy penguin, now named Pecker to keep his Sorceror Mickey company. We then stopped by at Clyde and Seamore, the sea lions, I love this show, its corny and funny but those sealions are so cute!
After some lunch (yummy pasta!) Callum decided to buy his Gran a pearl from the pearl harbour diving centre, he did good, his pearl had an estimated value of $40, not bad for $14.99, although Mum did pay out $65 getting it set in a white gold cage.
Pets Ahoy! What a fab show, so cute, If you haven’t seen it, do make the effort, I would never believe you could train cats do tricks and the rat, pig and skunk are great too.
The weather has broken again now and its getting quite chilly so after the shark encounter we head over to the arctic section to view the polar bears. Last year we decided to go ‘by land’ through to the polar bear section but we were feeling rather daring and wide-awake Dan hadn’t had his big thrill ride of the day yet so we joined the helicopter ride, wow! What a simulator, I surprisingly found it easier on the stomach than Star Tours (maybe because it wasn’t so dark) but Mum, Ruth and Reg came off feeling very ill indeed. Of course Callum and Dan loved it and would have wanted to do it again but their empty bellies now became a priority so we grabbed the obligatory fries etc before retiring to the Shamu stasium for the last show of the evening, We’re all freezing by now but the kids insist on sitting in the splash zone, they’re right down the front row straight in front of where Shamu pops up to wave.
The show starts and they have a dedication to all U.S and U.K military personnell which Ruth finds very moving. Shamu is fantastic, those trainers are so talented, how I’d love that job.
Of course the kids are delighted when the big splashes start but how we laughed to find that everyone either side and straight behind them got absolutely drenched and they had a few splashes on them like they’d been down Splash Mountain!!
A very cold and very long hike back to the entrance followed by a quick look in the shops and our taxi guy, Jean-Claude was waiting, great service and just what you need at the end of a long day.
Back to bed for a Baileys and a dream of Shamu
