Carnival ship ...fire out..now adrift

Just wanted to throw in this information. Reports from the prior cruise on that boat (my cousin, grandma, and their friend all talked to about the cruise at different times) said that the boat took on lots of water due to weather on the way into Galveston. The entire leddo deck was flooded as well as one of the glass elevators taking on water. It makes me wonder if they turned this boat around so quickly to go back out that they didn't do a proper check of everything and making sure the water didn't get into anything else. My cousin has said if she does indeed travel Carnival again it will never be the older ships. This is her 3rd cruise with them out of Galveston and she said the older ships are really showing their age and probably should be redone before sending them back out.

Relax. It's just a discussion. There are no right or wrong opinions and no one's opinion is any more or less valuable than anyone else's. Unless you are accountant for Carnival, I doubt you know what their balance sheets look like and how much they spend on maitenance relative to DCL or RCL....and neither do we. No one is trying to cite facts here....just opinions.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree on this. You know what they say about opinions! :rotfl:

They have been having problems with the propulsion on this ship recently. Didn't your family miss Cozumel? As for older ships, their Fantasy class ships are older than the Triumph and are fairly problem free. Triumph was scheduled for major dry dock to get all the 2.0 upgrades next year.

You are assuming there is a "loss of revenue". Look, I'm not going to debate Carnival safety issues but you and Rogillio need to quit it with the economics/finance assumptions. Selling cabins inexpensively to drive up demand does not necessarily mean they have to cut corners elsewhere to make up for it. You are BOTH forgetting that Carnival experiences economies of scale / increasing returns to scale. It's a simple micro economic concept where the long-run average total cost declines as output increases.

hmmm............................ok........I have to give you your point here...........from the pure econmics I agee......;)

I missed this at first. How many DCL cruises? And what is that about anyways????

Two. And I agree with you that illness is as much a safety concern as other things. It's about people bringing SICK KIDS on Disney ships. There is a thread out there right now with a poor woman who skipped her cruise because her daughter was so sick. You should read how many people advised her to take the kid on, anyway!

Must you be grumpy? We don't agree. Period. End of story. But if you'd like, we can keep going back and forth. popcorn::

I found your last comment about "opinions" to be vulgar and offensive. You can act indignant and call me grumpy if all you want.

On our Disney cruise in the Magic, last January. The ship had an issue with one of its engines and couldn't dock into castaway cay. So we had to circle and wait for them to fix the engine so we could dock. They released a new movie into the theaters and brought out Mickey and Minnie I believe in their island wear to appease the masses. We weren't worried and we are planning on cruising with DCL next February. I love DCL simply because they are so good with the kids and their service is bar none in my experience. We also had shower issues as well. But staff came right up and fixed them for us.

I have sailed with carnival three times before, but it was a chartered cruise. But I do remember the toilets backing up on several floors and it smelled like an out house for a bit. But that was probably more of a guest error then anything else :) and I've sailed with NCL. And I just love their cruise line :) but things can go wrong with ships. One of the reasons I always worry about DH and our kids on our boat anchored out in the summer :) a boat isn't like a car where u can just pull over and call a tow truck. :)

my friend and her fam were suppose to board the ship today! bummer for her!! i told her she should have done disney as my husband and i just came back from our first cruise on disney sat! she said she will next time!!!!!! lol

And just becuase people are willing to pay for for Disney does not mean they are drinking KoolAid. Some of us actually have had better cruise experiences on Disney than other cruiselines. And some of us actually think they ARE better.

I'd say let each person decide for themself if they are willing to pay more for DCL and not make the derisive comments about KoolAid becuase you don't put value in the same things other do. If you find great value in Carnival, then cuise with them and go to the Carnival fan internet forum and talk about how great and wonderful Carnival is.

Many (if not most) of the people here have a cruise booked and/or paid for already. No one likes to read about how they are just wasting money cause DCL is just over-priced becuase idiots like them are willing to pay for pixie dust.

But this discussion that we're having now isn't ON the Carnival forum. Someone felt it necessary to post it on a DISNEY forum. And why would that be??? :scratchin Hmm...let me think about it a second......Oh! I know! So the Disney lovers could bash Carnival!! Otherwise, it serves no purpose here on a Disney discussion board at all.

And I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts the people on the Carnival threads realize that sometimes things happen, and think the people on that cruise got a heck of a deal....they had their whole cruise full of fun....they aren't that far from home, they're still being fed and taken care of, they got their whole cruise and onboard charges paid for AND they'll get another whole cruise for free.

That's so nice of you....to tell someone "I told you so" when they're feeling down.

I didn't say anything vulgar and you can be offended all you want. All you do is argue with people if they 1-don't think Disney is the best ever or 2-disagree with you.

When this poster had the audacity to say they had fun on Carnival, you wanted to know if their "grown up activities" included drinking, gambling, clubbing, R-rated movies, burlesque shows, vulgar/profane comedians. That was extremely rude and offensive but I didn't feel the need to point it out.

You don't like it when people like Carnival. Period.

^^^^^This!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because let's face it, if it were truly because it's cruise related, we'd be having an ongoing discussion about the safety of lifeboat drills since 5 people DIED yesterday.

But it wasn't on Carnival, so the bashers aren't interested in keeping that one going!

To echo what others have said, something can happen on any ship and I don't consider it Carnival bashing to talk about it on another cruise line forum, per se.

We talk about Universal on the Disney forums and it's not necessarily an exclusive thing, one way or another, as to what you can or cannot like or be interested in discussing. Assumptions of intentions is very 'get off the forums, you're becoming a troll' like behavior. :confused3

Notice how I posted a link to the article about those crew members dying, and no one mentioned it at all..... :confused3

I bet you a hundred bucks if it had happened on Carnival, it would be at the top of the page.

I think it's because most people on this forum don't cruise on that line and it doesn't leave from an American port.

I waited to jump in on the economic issues that some were bashing Carnival with. While I will most likely never sail Carnival, I don't feel there cheap rates to get on cause them to cut corners on maintenance.

The DW compared drink prices on Carnival vs DCL with co workers that regularly sail Carnival. What they found was DCL was cheaper on drinks by quite a bit. If the fun ship reputation is true, again second hand it sounds like it is, they will make a tidy profit on booze, which has a very high markup as it is. Couple that with casinos that aren't regulated the same as on land I think Carnival does alright.

If they are cutting corners it would be to bring in a few more pennies on top of the many that are already there.

As to a PP's comment about the tragedy with the life boat drill, it is a terrible thing to happen and my prayers go out to the families that lost loved ones. I think people are not commenting because they are keeping the discussion on topic for the most part.

I will not lie and say this is not crazy and that I would be really scared if I was on board. No power, phone wouldn't work and nothing to do. Yeah I would be really scared, but that isn't saying I'm gonna cancel mine, I'm going on my 2nd carnival cruise in July and I can't wait. Things happen that sometimes people have no control over. I shouldn't stop you from living your life.

Now who's drinking the Kool Aid? Being stuck on a cruise ship with no running water or flushing toilets is a "heck of a deal"? :lmao: You seem to be just as disillusioned as the "Disney lovers".
