Carnival Indicating August for Phase In

I sort of doubt that DCL would be the first ones back. So I’d expect they will resume sometime after August 1. Just a hunch based on my expectation that Disney will be more cautious about guest safety than some other lines.

As DCL likes to follow the bigger boys, it will probably take a while. They will look at what the others are doing, how the guests are reacting, if there are any issues or ill people on board.
I don't think that other lines care more or less about guest safety, Disney just doesn't want to be the first if things go wrong.

I think this is a more realistic explanation for the lag. They are going to work to protect their reputation even if it means a couple extra weeks of down time.

I agree. I just hope DCL doesn't take too long to make its decisions and subsequent announcements. The big bummer for us is that we don't have a good window for another cruise within 15 months of our original sail date. 18 months would have been a perfect window for us to reschedule, but I think we'll have no choice but to outright cancel.

Well this is good news. If DCL continues their game of follow the leader that means I’ll still be cruising in August.

This is also a bold move on their part, given their projected sail date is just a week after the CDC no-sail order expires. What happens if the CDC extends it? Furthermore, we don’t even have a WDW opening date yet but we can be hopeful they’ll reopen next month.

Seems like my July cruise is probably out. I figured as much but was holding out hope. Hopefully, they will still do the 125% FCC. I saw a Southern Caribbean for next summer that looked enticing. Our son has never been to the south, and we have only done the Fantasy.

EDIT: Just realized the Southern Caribbean is on Fantasy. That's OK though. We love the ship.

I appreciate just hearing a plan, even though I know it could change at any time. But seeing actual dates is heartening. I like the fact that not every ship in the fleet will immediately start sailing and that it looks like they are testing every class of ship before going all in. I imagine the logistics of CCL (or RCCL or NCL) vs. DCL are a little more complicated simply due to the number of ships the company has to "figure out." I'm sure we'll be hearing from the other major cruise lines soon.

We had planned on WDW this October, but as that is looking less and less likely, it gives me hope that maybe a Carnival Halloween cruise could be an option. There are a few I've had my eye on.

I wonder when they will post their conditions of sailing, ie: masks, distancing, etc. Or will they? Also, what will they do if some (many?) guests aren't able to make it to port, since the borders are closed? And what ports of call will actually be open for those sailings?

I am not from the US so I think it is worth noting that the vast majority of your neighbouring countries think that the US is opening too quickly. I am not saying this to spark an argument but to say that it’s all well and good to be able to cruise from US ports but there may not be a lot of ports that will accept the ships due to the risk that it could be brought into their ports with the ship and its passengers.

(I was on the Wonder when it was turned away from Colombia and Panama.)

Carnival is walking back their initial statement and just released this.

So take that 8/1 date with a grain of salt.
I laughed SO hard when I read their updated statement. It's wishy-washy and unclear...beautifully non-committal. All I could think of was Chevy Chase's press conference in "Spies Like Us"

All that Carnival did today was throw spaghetti at a wall to see if it will stick. They have no idea if they're going to be able to cruise on August 1st.

You can't make everyone happy.

Cruise lines (and Disney) are not going to come out and announce "Hey, we're not sailing until 2021." Can you imagine the nightmare of rescheduling, cancellations and refunding guests? These companies can barely handle a month or two. People are going crazy wondering where their refunds are from last month.

Cruising will resume eventually. I appreciate their transparency and attempting to keep their guests informed about sailings going forward. I completely take ANY "opening" date for ANY company with a grain of salt. I keep seeing people frustrated with cruise lines (and Disney parks!) about the lack of information being released, so I don't necessarily consider coming up with a tentative plan for slowly resuming operations a bad thing. JMO.
