Carnival ending free room service

Carnival Cruise Line is ending free room service, with exception of continental breakfast.

I hope Disney Cruise Line doesn’t follow Carnival’s lead on room service.

UPDATE: Due to many complaints from their guests, Carnival just announced they are reversing this policy. Room service will continue to remain free.

I believe Carnival is just following RCL's lead on this - they charge for everything but continental breakfast as well, have for over a year. I'm guessing it's the way things are heading, which is disappointing.

Yep DCL will follow this and decline by yet another degree while jacking their prices up even higher all while claiming to be a special premium carrier!

Well, if they are going to start charging for room service, they need to have a buffet option in the evenings for those guests who can’t or won’t eat in the main dining rooms every night.

We are big Carnival cruises but are returning to Disney because we absolutely hate the decline in Carnival’s amenities. I sure hope Disney doesn’t follow as I expect better since paying almost double.

That would be a shame. One thing I love about DCL is they don't nickle you to death. They don't have a soda package and so on.

I am going to hope DCL doesn't follow suit. I could care less if carnival does it.

DCL is billing themselves as a premium carrier, and shouldn't start charging for room service as a way to continue to distinguish themselves especially since their prices are so much higher. Otherwise they're just Carnival with a famous mouse.

I believe Disney should/could offer an earlier main dining seating time before the 5:45pm time frame. Our family finds the current two times offered to late in the day for our liking to have dinner. You do get tired of the food on deck and room service as our alternative. They could offer it like lunch with one main dining room open as a walk up first come first serve. There doesn’t have to be the dinner “show” just a time frame to get that restaurant main dining room dinner foods.

I know you've said before that your family is early to rise and early to bed but I am honestly going to suggest that that is most definitely the exception... in other words that there's little demand for a dining time earlier than 5:45 (which is far too early for my liking!)

Not the OP, but I do find it a little limiting that there is no dinner buffet on DCL. Sometimes it's nice to have the option to eat from a buffet at dinner rather than be served at a table (and to eat food that is more substantial than the more fast food like options on the pool deck). It's not a bad thing, it's just a thing.

To me anything earlier than 5:45 would not be considered dinner but a late lunch.

I would be very upset if DCL ended free room service. I like to know that after a late excursion we can eat and relax in the room without me worrying over the cost of what I'm ordering. That is one of the primary reasons I love to cruise. I have anxiety issues around food and when the prices are high I tend to not order/under order for myself so that others can eat what they want.

I've never cruised on Carnival but from what I've heard they do have many food options all day. I find DCL very limiting on their food choices with the lunch buffet closing at 2 pm especially on port days. Night time options have been dwindling year after year and the late night buffet is almost a joke now.

For a short time, yes, there's a snack/buffet (no charge) in the adult area (usually near whatever passes for a "pub")
