Carnival Dream Flooded!

Wow! A broken pipe always sucks ...

...but good for Carnival who stepped up and compensate their passengers and offered full refund + 50% off the next cruise and free flights to those who chose to return home! That was the right thing to do.

And good news for the guest that will sail with them next.

Maintenance issues happen on every ship. Pretty dramatic footage, but it seems that Carnival handled it pretty well.

We had a very minor maintenance issue with a leaking pipe on our WBPC on the Wonder a few doors down from our Stateroom. Looked pretty messy but really no impact. Just very interesting to see all the complexity that exists under those nicely arranged panels in the hallways. There was also a broken pane of glass on the railing of deck four caused by a mooring line issue from a fuel barge after leaving the Panama Canal. Also handled promptly.

I'm guessing most passengers on that Carnival ship didn't even know this happened.

When we were on the Magic in November the Edge flooded and they had to shut it down for a couple of days. I wouldn't mind a little convenience for a full refund, free flights home, and half off another cruise,

Having experienced a couple of plumbing related floods in our own home over the years, I know all too well these things do happen, despite how well you try to maintain things. Damage can swift and severe if not caught in time and handled properly. It sounds as if Carnival handled this as well as could have been expected and certainly stepped up with their compensation to the affected guests. Good for them!

Carnival is very generous with the compensation. What would DCL have done.? A plate of chocolate covered strawberries? just kidding. Since Disney owns most of the media I don't think they have to worry about bad publicity as much as Carnival.

Knock on wood I haven't experienced any plumbing problems..... except when my kids used to try to flush their toys.

Big difference between a tween club and staterooms where people are living for the duration of the cruise and have their stuff in there.

I'm not saying that it couldn't or wouldn't happen on Disney in living areas. But I have more confidence than you do in Disney's ability to make it right (and not just because they own ABC) if it was affecting people's stuff and where they are supposed to be living and sleeping.

I'm glad you're confident that makes me feel so much better.

I saw this posted in one of the DCL fan groups on FB and multiple people said of course this would happen on a cheaper line, this is why we sail Disney, Disney would never let this happen. Ummm....the koolaid is tasty today? Lol.
Obviously these people have never been on deck two of the Magic when the army of wet vacs have been out in full force.

+ 50% off the next cruise
Can't say whether it's true for this situation or not, but, typically, the "50% off future cruise" wording means you get 50% of the cost the cruise you are currently on. So that someone in an inside room, can't use it to get 50% off a verandah room.

They also got a full refund and free flights home. Most people tend to book the same type of room so if that is true which we don't know if it is...it's still very good compensation. The flooding was on deck 9 which Is one of the more expensive decks.

Saw this ship in Cozumel when the Fantasy docked this past week. Interesting to know what happened.

Put it this way. If it happened on Disney, it would be a headline. If on Carnival - shrug - stuff happens.

I wouldn't say this sort of thing never happens on disney, nor that they would roll out the red carpet. I was once staying at the Polynesian resort (at club level) and came back one night to a room that flooded because of a burst pipe. Water was coming down from the ceiling, pooled on the floor in the bathroom, soaked into the carpet. They kept us up until 2am doing repairs, refused to move us to another room until more than 24 hours later (and when they did it was a worse one), and did not give us a penny back or even a little gift of any kind. We had to make makeshift "stepping stones" in the bathroom just to use it in the morning it was so flooded.

Disney snobs...can't stand them. Disney does no wrong blah, blah, blah. They're on here too.

And yes...stuff really does happen on Disney too. We had a bad experience on one of our cruises and although Disney tried to fix it they couldn't and we cruised with a cabin that smelled like a sewer. Yum.

Feel sorry for the passengers... not a fun thing to deal with on a cruise. Hope everything works out for them.

Not necessarily. The Carnival Triumph made major news for several weeks a few years ago after an engine room fire severely crippled the ship. Most of the ships power was out, no A/C, no restrooms, no hot food services. When the news reports on major issues with cruises, all cruise lines feel the impact...usually from first time cruisers who cancel. I know a lot of folks who cancelled planned cruises on Carnival and other lines after the new broke. I sailed on the Triumph shortly after she was put back into service.

Granted, my elderly neighbor and her friends are not adventurous travelers, her first and only flight was was at the age of 77, she's 84 now, and she still won't take a cruise because of the negative news reports over the years.

Been on 23 cruises across 3 cruise lines. Worst service/experiences in both both dining & customer service.....was on a Disney cruise. Gasp. The time we had to move staterooms mid-cruise because of water leaking from the ceiling all over the desk area (& our stuff).....Disney. So there’s that. Granted, I’ve never sailed Carnival but mishaps happen on all cruise lines. It was fire water, not sewage.

Accidents/issues happen on every cruise line. Most folks on this board probably are not aware of the fire on the Disney Magic back in 2002. Imagine being woken up at 4:30 in the morning and grabbing your life jackets and going to your muster station.

Disney did off offer all cruises $100 stateroom credit for their troubles.
