Carnival cancels some cruises through November 1. All San Francisco cruises

Not surprising. Disney keeping mum on reopening parks, universal closed thru May. I’m still saying late fall for Anything to get back to somewhat normal.

you are probably correct I said a few weeks ago Oct 1. Or somewhere close to that date. . Hope I’m wrong here and it’s sooner.

I really, REALLY hope you are both incorrect. Portions of the economy being shuttered for six or more months would be a horrible disaster.

They are only talking about theme parks (Disney parks to be specific). Many other businesses will likely reopen in some fashion well before Fall. I think businesses that tend to attract big crowds will likely take longer to "normalize" (whatever the new normal will be).

The head of the Minneapolis Federal Reserve says to expect rolling shutdowns for 18 months.

Travel may be a sector shut down longer and harder than some others based on how it clusters people and spreads infetion vectors.

This is all not that surprising to me but definitely unfortunate. I think it gives us a real clear indication that cruise ships likely won't be moving for quite some time. We can expect Disney and the other cruise lines to follow suit but just not that aggressively. DCL seems to be staggering the cancellation announcements to keep the call volume down at this point so we can expect that to continue moving forward.

The summer season is definitely impacted at this point. I now realize that my August cruise on the Fantasy has a strong possibility of being cancelled now and if it does I'll just take the refund.

My thoughts as well.

WDW offered free dining this Summer to those people with trips cancelled this Spring. I don't think they would have done that unless they planned on opening. Since the hospitalizations and deaths are now lower than projected. I'm seeing anything that would change Disney's mind.

planned = hoped

Could very well not happen.

Theme parks and cruises are different divisions subject to different factors, though.

Too bad those who had cruises cancelled could not get the free dining offer if they booked a WDW vacation after the fact- Different business entities.

My cruise in May was cancelled so I rebooked for August and will be staying at a Disney resort before the cruise.

It’s interesting how scarce discounted rooms are this Summer. On the theme park board they are talking about how scarce fast passes are for June. It makes me think they are trying to keep capacity low.

It will be interesting to see their reopening plans. I wouldn’t mind a less crowded park with no fast passes. I could live without parades and shows.

I expect to see deep deep discounts in the Fall and 2021 when the parks are fully functional again. I think the discounts will be similar to what we saw after the 2008 collapse.

Don't forget that October 2021 is their 50th anniversary, though. That in itself should be enough to draw in a good amount of customers at any price.

Not with the 20% to 30% unemployment they are predicting. It really depends on how fast we recover from this, but there are a lot more lay offs on the horizon.

I think there will be tons of empty rooms and needed discounts in the future, but 10/21 is not a time that needs that. Just include a special anniversary parade and fireworks show and enough of the 70% that didn't lose employment will pay full price for the "experience". They were working up towards charging huge prices for that time before the virus closed their parks, and they will probably not raise them as much as they would have liked to, but will also not have to discount them.

I think you are HIGHLY optimistic about when things coming back to normal. California’s governor is saying that schools may not be normal in the fall.
Theme parks are going to be one of the LAST things to be normal

Agreed about things being bad for quite some time, but 10/21 is a long, long time from now. This virus is unlikely to mutate, so by that point there will either be a readily available vaccine or enough people will have gotten it that they will then be immune.
We have only been in this mess for at most 2 months. 1 month or less for most areas. 10/21 is 15.5 months away still.

Why is San Fransisco delayed longer??

I don't think we are delayed longer.
I think we are being realistic.

If there is ANY real circulating virus, bringing crowds back together (cruise ships, pride parade, festivals), the virus will come back.

I also think that states that are NOT shutting things down are going to make this drag on longer. Once the virus is introduced into certain areas and people are not isolating, it will spread. (And I am not a worrier germaphobe.)

I also am familiar enough with the drug development process (I work for big pharma), to know that phase 1, 2 and 3 clinic trials will NOT happen by the end of the summer. Literally, its not enough time to get safety data.
