I'm toying with the idea of going to the Caribbean this winter, but have no idea where we should go.

We (2 adults) are pretty much looking for couples-oriented, snorkeling, golf, spa type of resort. For maybe 5-7 days. Either mid Nov, early Dec, Xmas or early Jan. I don't want it to be too boring though. (that is, I'd rather not go swimming only for 7 days straight).

Which timeslot will be cheaper, when will be less crowded...etc. Any advice?

Say hi to the Disney Magic if youre in either St Marten or St Thomas. We'll be there the 1st wk of Dec!

Mid November or early December should be least expensive.
Many charters take a break early December because the
demand pre holidays is so low. Of the times you mentioned,
Xmas would be the most $$$ by far and early January 2nd
in expense routinely but a good time to travel. Mid Nov can still
find hurricanes(we experience a hurricane on a vacation
Nov 5-15th a few years ago), not fun! Also-all these times
except Xmas will be low on children travelling.

Good golf in the Carib is unheard of. Jamaica has
the most courses AND the most resorts. Sandals resorts
are nice but won't be inexpensive in the winter. Often they
run a sale starting after labor day but the savings is usually
only $500 per couple. I like Grand Lido Negril but no golf there.
Also, Jamaica leaves much to be desired regarding snorkeling.
And -no gambling in Jamaica. Negril's beach is the best and
the prettiest on Jamaica. Grand Lido has a wonderful spa.

My personal favorite island is St. John. No golf there either
because there's not a bit of flat land but that's why it's so
beautiful. Great hiking trails, wonderful snorkeling, ferry
to St. Thomas for a 1/2 day of shopping, I COULD spend
two weeks on the beach and snorkeling and often do so
this island might be a bit low key for you. There are speed
raft trips to the British virgin islands from the dock in
Cruz Bay(bring your passport) and the most beautiful sunsets
anywhere. The Westin is nice, Caneel Bay is exclusively
low key deluxe and house rental is a good option too. You
might get a good deal on a house there early January or December. Shop the internet heavily if you're renting a house,
there are lots of rental agencies out there.

Consider Cayman, the Hyatt has a golf course, snorkeling at
Stingray City is a gas as is other snorkeling. The island is
very small so a quick trip to "hell" and the turtle farm rounds
out the possible activities but the snorkeling should keep
you busy for a long time.

St. Lucia is worth a look, great hiking and some fabulously
unique resorts. Anse Chastanet should be considered as
well as the Sandals resort there. I don't think there's any
golf.

Puerto rico has much to offer and some easy flights and maybe
great deals from NYC. Good golf there, casinos, rain forests and
limited snorkeling. Be careful which resort you choose-saving
money in PR often results in remorse. IF you can find good
prices at the better resorts-go for it.

You should also consider the Riviera Maya south of Cancun.
I love the Oasis Akumal. It's low key, good food and snorkeling
there is wonderful. Again-no golf. Good prices though. Food
at some of the other larger all inclusives has been described
as uninventive in this area.

I was a travel agent for 29 years and could go on. Take a look
at the charters from your area. This should save you money.

We own at a timeshare resort on St. Thomas, and love it there. The resort is near the Mahogany Run Golf course. There's just enough shopping and nightlife on STT, Great beaches, snorkeling, etc, and the National Park on St John, which is much less populated, is just a quick ferry trip away, with even better snorkeling and lots more great beaches. I don't know anything about Spa facilities on STT or STJ, but I know they exist.

We've gone in Feb, March and April.

well I would have to say st.Croix they have wonderful beaches two great golf courses ( carambola and the buckaneer).

My mother Figmentvi lives on st.croix so if you wanted to find out more im sure she would love to answer any questions.

We lived on St croix for awhile...DH worked at Carambola....he was the chef. I taught 2nd grade at Country Day School

Loved St John...Caneel is beautiful. We rented a house on Chocolate Bay.

We vacationed at Beaches on Turks and Caicos...wonderful, relaxing vacation.

Also spent some time at the Ritz in Jamaica in january (DH had some work to do)....that was very relaxing also.

Aruba, Anguilla and St. Barts are all gorgeous.

Hehehehehe....looks like everyone has a personal favorite!

We love Couples Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamiaca. We've been there 3 times and are thinking of going back next year. Here is a link about the resort:

LOL, is there an island NOT to go to??

Thanks everyone!
One question about Sandals. Are they cheesy or are they alright? (Well, I consider the Poconos kinda cheesy, with those big champagne glass bathtub). I normally was afraid of those all inclusive resorts. Heard that food wasn't that great. Anyone has better experience?

This threads of reply confuses me even more. So many choices.:p

Beaches at Turks and Caicos was definatly NOT cheesey. There are 7 restaurants and all are quite different and excellent. There are older rooms and then there are the newer ones...we preferred the newer ones.

I have never been to the Caribbean but DH and I are going with another couple to the Dominican Republic in October. The place looks fabulous! The resort we are staying at (Iberostar Bavaro) is not necessarly couples-oriented but I'm sure there are some.
We are paying $2500 for a week, 24 hr all-inclusive, 8 sit down restaurants, flying from Boston.
Happy planning!

My all time fave resort in the Carribbean is The Bitter End Yacht Club and Resort on Virgin Gorda in the BVI (British Virgin Islands). DH and I went there on our honeymoon, and it was bliss. All inclusive for food, allegedly you paid for all your drinks, but our bar bill after 10 days was $38!!!!!!! I think they missed a couple of Pina Coladas. It was pretty quiet when we went in Oct, but if I remember correctly, there is more going on the closer you get to the Holidays.

Sorry to add more choices to your list, but you asked ;)

We got married and honeymooned at Beaches in Turks & Caicos in 1998. It was wonderful. It has the most beautiful water I have ever seen anywhere in the Caribbean.

Also, Sandals Negril (Jamaica) was very nice, we went there last year.

Sandals and Beaches resorts are very nice and not at all cheesy.

Sandals is for adult couples only, Beaches is for families.

I have a friend who was in Tobago recently and she said it was the most awesome place she's been. I had a met a group of people from Trinidad and Tobago and they said it was quite a place.

Boy, more and more choices as I start my research. :)

One question. Most resort offers honeymoon packages. Can I book these when I'm already married 5 years? Well, technically, this will be our 2nd honeymoon (minus those in Disneyworld of course).
