Im shocked you feel that way about Barbados. We stay in The Gap..walk everywhere..no issues..no beggars..all Can banks are there due to PM Pierre Trudeau and their PM at the time went to school together.

Canadian commercial banks are all over the Caribbean and into South America. Especially Royal and Scotia.

we were there a few years ago,so maybe things are better now,but everything around looked so run down and deserted.You could see the 'dealers" at one end of the beach ,if you were interested and hounded daily on the beach by "salesmen",lol.The water at the beach was great though.

Yes, I’ve been eyeing Hilton’s Rose Hall to burn some points. We really enjoyed the Couples resort in Ocho Rios. Beach there not public like on the western end of the island. Their included airport shuttle (with food and drinks in the lounge and to take for the ride) is a wonderful perk. Our friends go every 6-12 months and alternate between their 4 locations across the island. The food is pretty good, and it is great to wash down with red stripe or rum & Ting. Several washes Ya Mon!

We went in March and found prices better flying out of Toronto instead of closer airports. Booking early helped, and we chose a place with family-friendly reviews and calm beaches.

Saint Lucia is a stunning island but expensive for a package. We honeymooned there 47 years ago when it was very sleepy but it is still a dream destination

What about the British Virgin Islands or Bermuda?

Places like Curaçao, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Dominican…direct flights are nice. But I personally wouldn’t want to do Dominican Republic, given its proximity to the unrest in Haiti. When we went to Jamaica, the report was beautiful, food great, but it gets dicey when you go off resort. Even in resort there are number of reported instances of inappropriate contact on females.

We did Bermuda five years ago and that is a beautiful island.
