After a 3 year absence we have book again for Nov 07. My daughter (10 going on 40) has convinced us to stay on site and so we opted for the Caribbean Beach Resort.

From the reviews I have read much is made of the long walk to the central area if allocated a room in an outlying island.

What sort of walk are we talking about? A 5-10 minute walk or a forced march with casualities likely?

Also we have always fuelled up on a buffet breakfast at Sizzlers in the past and gone through most of the day on the strength of it. What is the Disney Resort breakfast like?

This is no doubt the first of many postings over the next year. I can hear my wife groaning already as Operation CBR gets into planning mode. She is essentially anti Disney but was heard to remark after the last trip "that the hours he spent on his ruddy PC were worth it"

We have stayed at CBR but were luckily enough to be in the Martinique area which is next to the main food court and building. There is an island in the middle see this map http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/cbrmap.htm which you can cross if you are over the other side of the lake. I am pretty sure it is just a 5-1o min stroll :)

There is a video tour here of the CBR http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/resorts/cbr.htm to see.

We have breakfast in the food court it was pretty much typical stuff waffles, bacon, sausage etc. Don't forget to buy your refillable mugs :)

Hope you have a fab time there !

hiya,

we stayed in CBR last sept and loved it! We also stayed in Marinique so found it handy for the food court, shop, etc. Our room was close to our pool and closer to the next block's pool! (barbados or bermuda? can't remember!) The laundry room is next to the pool too. Also close to the beach and lake. The breakfast's were good, big selection of grab and go pastry's, fruit, etc. Also different counters for cooked breakfasts, waffles, etc. Don't think it comes close to what you can get at sizzlers, but still good.
There's the bus that runs around the villages as well as to the parks, again martinique was one of the first stops so we always got a seat.

Driving around CBR is easy too, we often called in at the main block to pick up snacks on our way out, and package pick up on our way back.

Another plus for CBR is it's pretty easy to drive to MGM, Epcot, Boardwalk, Downtown Disney, the water parks, crazy golfs, and there's a gas station near the entrance too!

We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, wherever our room was.

Have a great time,

Lynn

We stayed in the Barbados section which is one of the further-flung areas (pre-DIS days, so we didn't know any different ;) ) but was certainly no more than a 10 minute stroll from the main areas. This was far enough however, at the end of a long day in the parks, to be a bit of a drag if we wanted to refill our mugs... and the mugs would invariably be empty by the time we got them back to the room! On the plus side, we were near to a very quiet pool for a relaxing dip, rather than using the main pool that tended to be pretty busy all day.

No casualties on our strolls ;), but I think I'd try to get a room closer to the main area if I went again.

We stayed in Barbados, group 11 which if you look at the map, is a bit further out. The walk was enjoyable especially early in the morning or late at night.
No more than a 10-minute walk, but is quite annoying if you just want to re-fill your mugs (i nearly always ended up on mug re-fill duty, tricky carrying four mugs full of drinks...) The quiet pools are nice, less children of the small shouty variety running about, and very much less busy.

I'd personally be quite happy to stay in Barbados again :thumbsup2

As for breakfast...ooft! at CBR there's a food court with several counters selling different things. Not a buffet but the amounts on each plate are pretty good :)
I couldnt go through a morning without a Mickey Waffle...

The breakfasts at CBR aren't the same "volume" as at Sizzlers and the like, or as cheap. There are a good selection of offsite dining choices both on the 192 and 535 which are only 5 minutes drive or so from CBR (if you have a car).

We also stayed at CBR in Martinique, but were in the furthest part of Martinique from the central area; it took us 3 and a half minutes from room to food court at a leisurely pace.

We stayed in Barbados last year. As has been said before, this is one of the furthest places away from the main dining area.

However, I am going to request Barbados again for this year. The walk was 5-10 minute stroll (walking slowly), but this area is very quiet.

When we went out in the car we would take our mugs with us and leave them in the car. When we got back to the resort, we would drive straight to the dining area, full up the mugs and then drive back to our room.

I was a little concerned before we went because some people were saying the walk was too far. This is objective of course, but we didn't find that to be the case at all.

You also have use of the internal shuttle system, though you may have to wait up to 10 minutes for the next shuttle bus.

We stayed at CBR in 1995 and stayed in one of the outlying villages. It was quite a pleasant stroll to the foodcourt area for drinks etc. However, we did have a car and when returning from the parks late at night we would drive to the foodcourt, fill our mugs and then drive back to our room. Our DS was only 4 at the time, so a 10 minute walk late at night was not a good idea.

As the average American thinks 200 yards is the maximum they want to walk from the car to their place of business and use their car to cross the street you can see why they find the resorts so huge..

Personally I've never felt that in any way, even at OKW. I'm used to walking 10 mins to work or 20 mins into town and at the Disney resorts the walk is usually so pretty, with beautiful flowers, birds and bunnies sometimes, water (rivers, lakes or pools..) and it's lovely and warm. Compare that to a slog home from the station in driving wind & rain ;)

I can understand that after a day at the park it might be a bit of a drag but for us it's definitely more in the lines of a pleasant stroll.

As for breakfast if you want to "stock up" then have a late breakfast (character) buffet, that should hold you till the late evening!! But portions at the foodcourt are pretty decent

Thanks guys. Nice too see that these boards are functioning as helpfully as ever. Item 1 on Operation Disney ticked off (1,000s to go)
