Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

These questions just keep popping into my head...

Do kids play with pails and shovels on the "beach", or is the sand not good for this? I'm wondering if I should try to pack a pail and shovel or forget about it.

Just called and reconfirmed by room "request" and just to make sure they are expecting me. LOL.

The beaches are great for the kids to play in the sand. The beaches are swept clean each night.

As far as packing sand pails and shovels, there is a way you can avoid that. The kids' chicken nugget meals at Old Port Royale are served in plastic sand pails that the kids get to keep.

Cool! Thanks for the tip. We'll be eating lunch there Sunday and we'll be sure to order some nuggets. :)

Hi, we are thinking of staying here next december but are concerned w/ how big the place is. Are there preferred rooms and what area are they located in. Thanks. We just returned from POFQ and loved how small it was but want to try something new.

Fear not! CBR is wonderful! Yes, there are preferred rooms, and yes there is a great map. Go to the very first post of this thread -- Safetymom has detailed information about CBR in that post, including a link to a great map. You will also want to click on her links to her photos of the resort.

As for size, I'll just say this -- I took my 2 DS's to AKL several years ago -- the room we were in was a longer walk to the pool and snack bar and lobby than our preferred rooms at CBR have been from those things. We just love CBR!

Feel free to check out the photos of CBR in my links below as well!

My DD can't wait to get a chicken nugget meal just so she can have the sand bucket!!!:rotfl:

My DGD loved the beach. If you go early enough you can see the "hidden" Mickey in the sand. She is a hidden Mickey fanatic like her Dad so she enjoyed this little surprise.

CBR's preferred locaiton rooms are in the 6 buildings closest to Old Port Royale, the complex that has the main pool, food court, shops, etc. These buildings are all 3 buildings in Trinidad North (31-32-33) and 3 of the 6 buildings in Martinique (24-25-26).

We just got back. We were there from Oct 10-18. The Caribbean beach was great. We were in Aruba. The room was water view right on the beach. I love the beach hammocks --Not too far from old port royale and it is a nice walk. The rooms were clean. We got towel animals everyday and they even decorated our window with Halloween decorations. My 2 year old son had a great time on the beach. They don't sell the nuggets in the bucket anymore but you can get a bucket and shovel for $1 in the gift shop. The staff was very friendly.
We lucked out with the weather no rain the entire time.
Have a great time--I can't wait to go back.

WHAT? No way! :goodvibes When next we go, one morning when my kids wake up, mom will be missing and down scouring the beach for a hidden Mickey :thumbsup2

Are they on all the beaches???

Denise

There is one thing I wish CRB would start doing and that is not just play the steel drum music there at Old Port Royale, but play it quietly throughtout the resort. Around the pools for instance, at the sitting/smoking areas and along the main walk ways around the buildings. Talk about having a romantic evening stroll...

safetymom/anyone else who can help

I travel to CBR Aug 08 with my husband and 2 teens. As we know the main pool will be closed at this time. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this may have an effect on the following (e.g. depending on how close they are to the main pool): bars, food court, shutters, the bridge over the lake & the island, arcade, beeches.
Also what would be the best location for a family with teens (hopefully not Trinidad South - looks far, far away!!):cheer2:

The pool closing shouldn't affect Old Port Royale. The bridge should also be clear. You will have a great time at CBR.

Many people enjoy Jamaica or Aruba to be close to the food court, etc.

Welcome to the DIS.

I thought I had read somewhere before that you can get a good view of the fireworks at Epcot from this resort, is this true and if so where is the best place?

When I stayed here in Dec 2006, we just so happened to catch the fireworks. We were standing right outside Old Port Royale. We were standing right by the dock for the boat rentals. I am not sure if any rooms have any view.

Only 33 more days!!!! :hyper:  :cheer2:

This thread has been such a great help and loaded with information! Thanks to everyone for their comments. :thanks: Sounds like the construction will be done when we get there (Nov. 28th).

My only concern is our check in. I've said before that our flight doesn't come in until 11:15pm. So by the time we check in our room it is going to be late. I will take a carry on with things we will need for bed (contact solution, med's, etc).

Anyone know what kind of weather is typical for the end of Nov?

Is there anywhere to buy a bottle of wine at CBR? DH and I would love to sit on the beach watch fireworks at EPCOT with a bottle of wine.

I've been to CBR with my two teen DS's twice now -- once in Martinique and once in Trinidad North, but honestly, they'll love any of the villages. There is so much for teens to do at CBR -- hammocks, beaches, beach volleyball, pools, game arcade, walk/run on the Promenade around the lake, food court, etc....
They'll love it!

Have to agree with CatbertDave. While some villages (or mostly; buildings) will be closer to OPR or the busstop, all are great and have their benefits. In September I booked a standard room, but got an upgrade to prefered location; building 31 of Trinidad North. The first building next to OPR and the busstop was really close to my door (both the stop of TN and OPR). I would lie if I said I didn't love it. I loved CBR and the location of the room! (downside; parking view)

After reading on here so much about CBR being so spread out, I was like "please don't put me at the furthest out room". When I got there and took a walk around, I soon realised I would have loved any place I'ld stay at. Shure, I'ld have to walk over to OPR to get my morning drink before hitting the busstop, instead of having OPR as my 'home busstop" and just drop in on OPR when I went to the bus. But the 'walk' would be no punishment what so ever. It is so beautifull overthere, I know I could do the walk a hundred times and still be in love with walking past beaches, pools and the tropical looks.

Some rooms have a lovely waterview, others are close to OPR, others will be in the quite and piece of Trinidad South, and others will have a great view of the villages garden. All is so lovely, I can't think of a room I would hate. Only thing I hope for -and put in my notes- is that if possible I don't get stuck at the other side of the water from OPR. It is a gorgious walk when going via Carribean Cay, unbelievable gorgious and piecefull. Only downside I felt where some of the bridges. The combination of the material used and the angel one was constructed in, it's not a bridge very very comfortable to cross in my wheelchair. But if I do get a room right across the water? I will gladly go around the long way or via Carribean Cay anyday than go to another mod resort.

Brenda; I'll probably also be arriving late at night for my next trip (10.30 pm at MCO :sad1: ) and a great tip I picked up about on the DIS; tell frontdesk if you don't want your luggage to be brought to the room once they've got it at CBR. I've read some reports on here about people being woken by a knock on the door in the middle of the night; their luggage was being delivered!
