Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ's Part II

We never had to wait long for the bus to come, but once at the parks I found that our bus stop was always one of the furthest away from the park entrance - even further than the bus stops to/from the value hotels...

We will be arriving on a Sunday evening and not visiting any parks until Monday, so are looking for things to do nearby. We aren’t partiers, so no desire to visit clubs or Downtown Disney. Is it fairly easy to get to nearby non-park restaraunts (cheaper?) instead of dining at Shutters or the food court? We don’t have a giant food budget for the days we will be there, and we’d rather do our nice meal in the parks at a themed place like Germany, etc, so we don’t really want to spend a lot for dinner at the resort if we can get the same quality nearby for less at an off-park restaurant. Any suggestions? I’ve never been to CBR, so I have no idea where it lays in relation to the rest of the park or the Orlando/Kissimee area.

Of course, if you think the prices at the food court area are compirable and I hear the food is good, then perhaps we will eat there after all – what do you all think? Is there much difference between the food and prices at CBR vs. the trouble of leaving the resort and finding something nearby offsite, especially if “nearby” in this case involves many miles and lots of traffic?

I am glad to hear about seeing the fireworks from Martinique, though, we’ll definitely check that out on Sunday night after we check in.

Thanks for all the great info everyone, it’s a big help!

I saw something in SeaSpray's last post that I hadn't heard of before. Now you have to pay extra to be in Martinique and/or Trinidad North? When did this start? How much extra is it?

Those buildings cost extra due to their prefered location. I think we are paying an extra $15 a night to guarantee the location. You can still get booked there without paying extra but it will only be a request (that may not be met) that has to be requested upon arrival.

It costs extra nightly to stay in Martinique and Trinidad North. $15 nightly and it started in 2004.

Golf4food, if you have a car then it wouldn't be to hard to go to the Crossroads area near DTD. If you take a taxi then you could eat at the resort for about the same or less.

Does anyone know if you can purchase Pal Mickey at the CBR gift shop?

**GOOFYDAD- I noticed your id says you are from Sellersburg, IN. I live in Borden, In and work in Sellersburg. How ironic.

Where do you work? I probably know you.

I know this one has been asked before but I can't find it and the search doesn't seem to want to find the word "refridgerator"...

How big are the fridges? What's the largets size bottle of juice or coke they can hold?

Also, how far is it to the nearest Publix, etc? :cool1:

Thanks!

I have been reading the CBR info on here and other sites for 2 days straight, and cannot figure out with those little maps the answer to my quandry. I am taking a trip with my stepmom a week after my family trip, and my stepmom and I will probably stay at the CBR. I just cannot figure out what to request. We want to be close to the beach for best fireworks viewing. Don't have to have a room WITH the view (booked standard) but want a quick trip outside and back in, KWIM? Any advice for us?

I see Jamaica recommended a lot, but does its beach have a good view? Martinique is preferred, I hear, for Illuminations viewing but are ALL Martinique bdgs "preferred"?

HELP!
I have never set foot on this resort, so I am really CLUELESS, lol!

Beth

I think the beach at Martinique has the best view of the fireworks. If you stay in Jamaica it is a quick walk across the bridge.

I don't think it is a long walk from any of the villages except Trinidad South that you could walk out and see the fireworks and then back to your room.

Golf4food - the fridge is a small cube-sized one, not the smallest one I ever saw, maybe 2.5 cubic feet. There's one shelf in the middle and storage in the door. You could fit a gallon of milk in it but you would have to take out the shelf. Better to get drinks in smaller containers, like a couple half gallon containers that you could put on their sides. A few water bottles and soda cans will fit in the door. Our fridge in CBR had no freezer compartment, which allowed for a little more space. We had to turn our fridge up to the highest setting to get it to make drinks really cold, but others have said that their drinks froze on the highest setting, so you probably will have to experiment with it.

Taximomfor4 - we stayed in Jamaica building 45, facing the bridge across the lagoon. We could see the fireworks, both Illuminations and Wishes, very well from the outside walkway of our building - I just stepped outside when I heard the first ones go off. You would be able to see them from any walkway in any building that faced the road on that side of the resort. We were on the second floor, and I think it helped to be up a little higher. I don't think you have to be on the beach to have a good vantage point.

I agree with Safety Mom. We stayed in Barbados recently and found it was only a 3-4 minute walk to Old Port Royale where the main pool is at. We could hear the fireworks in our room quite loud and I walked out to the beach there and saw a couple of the high ones but if you walked down to Martinique I am sure they would be better.

Only 37 more days for my 2 sons and myself!! I'm a single dad raising 2 boys, and Disney World is our vacation of choice! I took them last Feb to AKL, and this April we arrive for the first time at CBR!! They'll be 14 and 11 when we come, and none of us can wait!! In fact, we're bringing friends with us!

Thanks for this thread -- it's great -- I've been reading it for weeks and just now posting!

Welcome to the DIS. You will enjoy your stay at CBR. :) Glad you are enjoying this thread.

Hi new to the this board, I am CM at CBR

The prefered locations are all of Trinidad North and three building in Martinque (24, 25, 26) all other rooms are standard rooms. The only smoking building is 51, the entire building is smoking.

The first and last bus stops, do change through-out the day, depending on how many people are waiting at the bus stops.

Hope this helps.
