Caribbean Beach FAQ part VI

Hi all,

I'm tagging along, watching to see what info leaks through for the refurb. We've stayed at Coronado that last 2 years, mainly because of the queen beds. I know Port Orleans RS and FQ have queens, but the resort pics just don't do it for me. I've been dying to stay at CBR for a bit now, but the dbl beds would definitely be an issue for us.

There will be 2 adults and an 8 and 9 yr old (dh and I apparently make big kids!)
So my question regardless of bed size, is can we rent a cot for our stay?

Another idea being we get a king bed, and get 2 cots, would they allow that?

It's our 10 yr anniversary in Oct, we were going to go to NYC just us, no kids, but a year without DW is blah blah blah, especially after such a LONG winter up in Atlantic Canada. Be nice to have a vacation to plan, and if we do go down, we are keeping it a secret from the kids until the morning of!! It'd be there 6th trip there in their short lives, and we've never surprised them. They are missing it as much as we are right about now. ;) CBR would be a great change surprise for everyone too!! Especially the pool area ;)

TIA! *Fingers crossed for the refurb*

I have actually stayed in POR twice with 5, and it is very nice there. The theming well done and grounds are really beautiful. The boat to DTD is definitely a plus too. That being said, we'd really like that little bit of extra space at CBR, and I'd like to try something new as well. : )

Keeping my fingers crossed for you two (and for others that need to have 5 in a room). With the rooms at the CBR being larger than the other moderates, there's definitely room to add in the extra bed/pull down/trundle to accommodate 5 people.

Thanks. : ) I really do hope all those leaks are right! It does make sense though given the size of the rooms is the biggest of the moderates.

Oh I thought I had read somewhere that the rooms were a smidge smaller than CSR? Excellent to hear! Then, yes, it only makes sense that they'd put in queen size beds.

What about the interior? Do we anticipate that they will update it as CSR did a few years back? I love the modern look of the rooms at CSR. (But 2 times there makes it time for a change)

I'm pretty sure that they are correct since the person that I spoke to was one of the lead resort managers and she confirmed the refurb.

They are a little larger than the other moderates. The rooms at CBR are 340 and the others are 314. Not a lot but every little bit helps. There were pictures posted about a year ago of a "model room" (my words not the poster's) in Jamaica and they look nice.

Excellent! I will google that and check it out! Thanks!! Do we know how long a refurb generally takes?

Here the link to the pictures that I was referring to:

Another wonderful Diser posted a link to the permits that were filed and they went through some time in May, 2015, I believe. Of course, they could always ask for more time but maybe they are thinking just a year to complete the refurb.

Finally found the pics! Took a bit to find them...

Thought I'd repost it here in case some were interested. IMO it's VERY nice! I'm super impressed with the textures and colors. Super modern! Love love love!
Looks like there will be rolling doors like at CSR! Which we loved having!

Interested to know what the headboard will look like...but they dont appear to have them up in the pics.

Love those pictures! Really colorful and tropical feeling - getting excited to book a stay next year :thumbsup2

I hate to change the subject but how far out should we order from Garden Grocer for our Mid May trip to CBR? How do they know which room we are staying in. I probally asked these questions before I while back but for some reason the answer has slipped my mind.

It's funny that you came here and posted this question because I just finished placing our order with Garden Grocer for our May 24th through June 7th trip. I looked back at my previous orders and it was around this same time that I ordered before. With it being the 24 hour celebration, Memorial Day weekend and Star Wars Weekends, I didn't want to chance it by waiting too long.

Ok, so i know this is an annoying, typical question, but what IS the best building?

I think we will use the main pool a lot, usually we tend to prefer the quiet pool, but the mail pool at CBR looks awesome.

Also, distance to food and refillable mug areas are important.

As well as bus proximity.

I could pay for preferred, but looking at the map, Jamaica 44 or 45 would be close to all of the above correct?

Or if I went preferred., could I select a water view, or would that be as a request? Buildings 25 and 26 in Martinique look like one would hop on the bus at OPR, is there any down side to this?

What building and location do you prefer, and why?

That question is only annoying when the asker doesn't specify what they are looking for. You did specify so you're good. :thumbsup2

It IS awesome. We usually schedule 1-2 resort days to enjoy the pool and the resort in general.

Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51 are some of the closest standard locations to OPR and the main pool. Bus proximity is a non issue as every village has it's own bus stop so you are never more than a minute stroll to a stop.

If you book preferred, a water view would be a request. No down side to catching the bus at the closest stop anywhere at the resort.

Our absolute favorite location is Jamaica 45. It is about a 4 minute stroll across the bridge to OPR and the main pool. It is a beautiful stroll when the sun is coming up too. Aruba 51 is also very close, but the bright yellow of the Jamaica buildings just scream Caribbean to us. Both Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51 are very short walks to the Jamaica bus stop too.

Awesome! Thank you! :) I think we will go with preferred and cross our fingers for the request!

So where are the refill mug stations? And what is Caribbean Cay? I think I've now gone and confused myself. I assume there is a refill area up at OPR (which is where the restaurant is correct?) Edit--I went to the 1st page and read about the island. Sounds great! However the first question still stands :)

Awesome! Thank you! :)

You're welcome.

So where are the refill mug stations?

At the food court in OPR.

And what is Caribbean Cay?

Caribbean Cay is the island you pass through when going from Jamaica, Aruba etc to OPR. It has really cool little paths, some benches to sit on and look at the lake, some beautiful vegetation/flowers and a really cool playground for the kids. Our son loves it.

Yeah our trip is very close to yours. I would have to assume it would be fine to order now then. I would rather be safe then sorry. Plus that would be one more thing I can cross off on our list. Thanks!!!

That's awesome! I can't wait! I'm not in a rush since we aren't going til next spring but it's definitely something to look forward too!

Martinique 25 has its own bus stop which is very close by. It's a easy quick walk to the food court too. 26 is even closer to the food court so we'll request that one this time, but you would definitely use OPR's bus stop for that one. Still quite convenient for grabbing breakfast and then getting the bus.

Just wanted to give you an update about my Garden Grocer order. I received a telephone call this morning from them verifying that they did receive my order, when I could expect it to arrive, that they would send me a text message before delivery, etc. Like you, I have one more thing to check off my list of things to do.

I'm ready to see what the new rooms will look like. Hopefully, the work will start soon and I'll get a new room when we go in May.

Trying to decide whether or not to use Garden Grocer this time... We really just need some quick breakfast things, donuts & pop tarts specifically. I think they may sell them in the CBR gift shop but can anyone confirm this and about how much are they?

They do have some items in the CBR store but it's a bit limited. I don't remember seeing any pop tarts but I know that there were some boxes/bags of donuts for sale there. The grab-n-go section in the food court has cereal in the individual bowls. I will look and see if I can find my post of the pictures that I took of some of the food items for sale and repost it here for you.
