Caribbean Beach FAQ part VI

Did not have time to read the whole thread yet (hoping to have time to do that later this week) but just got booked to CBR as overflow from SOG and have some quick questions if someone has time?

Do the washer and dryers take quarters?

Yes they do. There are change machines in the laundry rooms. There are laundry rooms in each of the resort villages right next to the quiet pool.

Is a king-size, water view room categorized as a "preferred room"?

King rooms and preferred rooms are two different categories. There are king rooms throughout the resort. Preferred rooms are in Martinique buildings 26, 25 & 24 and all of Trinidad North.

How far from this category room would the parking be? I have a handicapp placard, hoping to get pretty close.

I would suggest that you contact Disney Travel and ask that they make a notation that you would like to be near a parking lot for a medical reason. Personally, I've never thought that the walk to the parking lot was long at all. As a matter of fact, during some of our stays, we only had to step out of our building and round a corner.

Does the room have a safe and fridge?

All rooms do have a small in-wall safe. The refrigerators at all Disney resorts are being replaced and there seems to be no rhyme or reason on how the process is being done. Some have reported having a fridge and others have reported that they do not. Normally, they do have them in the room.

Other than SOG and Fort Wilderness, this is our first official stay at a Disney resort!

Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks!

We have stayed at the CBR many many times and love everything about it! I have lots of pictures in my trip report and would be more than happy to answer any other questions that you may have. If I don't know the answer, I'm sure that some others will chime in. The link to my report is in my signature.

Our room is a pirate room and does not have a fridge. DH asked for one and was asked if he met one of two criteria: if we have a medical need for one (no) or if we have small children (yes). They said they'd get us one, but they still haven't. I hope we can get the credit if they never send one.

Hopefully, the fridge will arrive. If not, pop into Old Port Royale and go to the concierge desk there.

Anyone know the current fridge status at CBR? I read that Port Orleans Riverside should have fridges back in all the rooms in a week or so. Any update on a timeline for CBR?

I don't know of anyone on the DIS that has an inside contact at CBR like Andre has at POR/POFQ. But there are still reports of some people at CBR right now without a fridge so they're still working on it.

We just got back and had a great trip.
I had requested either Martinique or Trinidad North and got Jamaica instead but it all worked out fine.
Jamaica isn't the best for people wanting to go to MK a lot, as it is one of the last stops for it.
But for DHS and EPCOT it was the first stop making it very easy to get to those parks.

As for the fridge, I thought it was a FRIDGE, when I let them know it wasn’t working well. (not cold inside) I was told it is a "beverage cooler not a fridge" it is intended to keep drinks cool not to refrigerate anything.
Keep this in mind if you plan to have milk or anything that must stay cold.

Wow, back in October when I was at Aruba, I had a new one, and the thing was so cold, it froze the beer I put in it.

Unless you booked preferred, you wouldn't have been placed in Trinidad North without an upgrade. Parts of Martinique are not preferred though.

It's too bad that your fridge wasn't working well. I wonder if it were a new one or an old one.

The old fridges would turn some of our drinks to slush if we put them close to the back wall. We didn't mind and would actually do it on purpose because we liked it that way.

Checked out today! As we were boarding our bus to leave they were unloading a truck full of fridges!

A bunch of fridge's were delivered to POR today too. Hopefully soon fridge talk will be a distant memory.

I'm hopeful that the fridges will be replaced and no one will have to worry about whether or not they will have a fridge in their room. Don't you know that it's a pain in the rear end keeping up with which room does and doesn't have a new one and which have to be replaced. :faint:

We stayed in Trinidad North in a King room last time and were not preferred status, we booked a King room again this time that is why I had hoped to get a similar room.

As for the fridge they brought up a new one and then told me the one we had was working as expected. That is when she said it is a beverage cooler not a fridge. I wonder if they are getting rid of the fridges and just replacing with the beverage coolers?

You were upgraded during the last stay to preferred since Trinidad North is only preferred.

I am not sure what's going on with the fridges but the ones that we have had before were definitely the small fridges not coolers. Who knows? Certainly the CMs do not which is sad.

Just got home yesterday from an 8 day stay at CBR. Our previous stay we were in a preferred (Martinique 24) and loved the location. This stay preferred was not available for free dining. We were in (martinique 21) and had no fridge but had no trouble getting one. As far as location, I would definitely get preferred next time, because it was just notas convenient to grab a "quick anything" from opr! Room was clean no mold or mildew smell. Mousekeeping was great left towel figures on beds 3 times(Mickey head, turtle, and x mas wreath). Buses were excellent waited at most 5 minutes, both coming from and going to parks.Another excellent stay at Caribbean Beach!

My mother-in-law will be meeting us at CBR during our stay. We are planning on getting her a parking pass when we check in. Will she be able to get past the guard shack at the resort when she arrives the first time and meet us at the check-in lobby, or do we need to meet her somewhere close to the resort, give her the parking pass and enter the resort with her?

This is the first time that I have had to deal with a car at WDW and want to give her the correct advice.

She will simply stop at the guard station and let them know the situation. Once she shows her identification, they should let her on through. We have had family visit us at the resort and all they had to do was show an i.d.

Nice to hear another good report! We were in Martinique 21 last visit and actually liked the location because we were close to the quiet pools in Martinique and Barbados.
