We arrived home this week after staying at CBR for 8 nights. I was SO looking forward to going back after such a wonderful stay last year. Unfortunately, our stay wasn't as great this year.

I would say the reason for this was mainly location, the neighbors we had, and the building we were in needing a bit of refurb.
I had requested Jamaica 45 or 46, but when I checked in we had been put in bldg. 41 (farthest bldg. from the bridge to OPR). I knew that my request was just that, a request, but I decided to ask if there was anything closer available. After a bit of checking, she found Aruba 51. We headed over there and as soon as we walked in the room, I thought it smelled of stale smoke or maybe just musty. My 5 year old's first words when he walked in were, "It smells like peanuts in here." So, whatever the smell was, we decided we couldn't deal with it for 8 days.
We headed back to the custom house and a very nice CM apologized and upgraded us for free.

She put us in a water view room in Trinidad North. It was very kind of her and totally unexpected! The unfortunate part was that even though it was an upgrade, I just didn't care for the location. Silly, I know, and totally not CBR's fault! But, the building (32) we were in I thought needed a bit of a refurb. The paint on the sidewalks was removed in different places and the paint on the doors needed to be redone. It just looked dirty and unkempt due to these things. After a hard rain one day, there was paint bubbled up in front of all the doors facing the water in our building. Not sure why this was because I looked at other areas and they did not have this same problem. Honestly, this time the buildings just seemed like a run down motel. It did not seem this way last year so maybe they just need to use some fresh paint on Building 32!
The other part that was a bit of a problem was that our neighbors decided to leave their trash outside their door every night. A few times we also found them sitting on their chairs on the sidewalk smoking (sorry, but we are not smokers so this bothered us). We actually found a bunch of people smoking outside their room rather than in the designated smoking areas.
Also, 2 or 3 nights of our trip the pool and hot tub were closed because they were power washing the deck. That also was a bit of a bummer because after a long day of walking, my husband and I really were looking forward to sitting in the hot tub.
I wish I could give a more favorable review, but I can't. I honestly wonder if we would have had a completely different stay if we had just stayed in the original Jamaica room they had given us. Oh well. We will never know.
