Caribbean Beach FAQ part V

Do a search here on the DIS and you will find lots of threads about them. :rotfl: Basically it's a national cheerleading/football championships held every year the first full week of Dec. The can be an absolute nightmare. I've been there twice during that time. The first time I was there they were at the All Stars and PORS, with the overflow going to POFQ. We were at POFQ and swore we'd never go back during that week. We didn't notice the football players, but the cheerleaders were totally out of control and their parents and so called chaperones were acting like a bunch of drunk sailors on leave. By the end of the week the employees were calling in and we saw a couple in tears. They made the Brazillian tour groups look well behaved. This past Dec due to scheduling problems at work I had to go back that same week again. I did a split stay at CSR and YC and never even noticed they were there. You probably won't even notice them in the parks, but if you're at the same resort they are, it can be a toss up. Some people say they are loud, but not a problem. Others have nightmare stories about them (fighting in the food court, throwing food and cutlery everywhere in the food court, taking over the pools and hot tubs, running up and down the halls all night banging on doors, giving CMs a really hard time, knocking little kids down, forcing themselves in front of everybody to get on the buses, practicing cheers in the early morning hours and late at night, etc). What's bad is the Disney CMs are totally overwhelmed by them and when you complain the general response is "We know, but what can we do?". I know when we complained about them at POFQ, the CM's only response was "We know they're out of control and will see what we can do, but don't expect much. There's just too many of them. There's about 40 complaints ahead of yours". When I suggested they talk to the parents and chaperones, she rolled her eyes and said the biggest complaints were about the parents and chaperones.

Thanks for this heads up!

We are booked at CBR in a standard room. I would love to get a pirate room for the girls. I know they are the furthest out. Can anyone give me a idea of how far the walk is?

Also has anyone had luck upgrading to a pirate room at check in? I would expect to pay of course. I'm just not sure if this is a option a check in we have a package not room only if that makes a diffrence.

Although we have never stayed in a pirate room (only the Nemo rooms) at the CBR, I have walked over to Trinidad South where the pirates are located a couple of times. The walks took me 6 1/2 minutes and 7 minutes at a leisurely pace.

How big are the in room safes. I plan on taking my iPad to Disney and I want to know if it will fit in the safe. Does anyone know?

The safes are (guesstimating from memory) about a foot square and maybe 3 inches deep? At any rate an iPad should fit fine as many put small laptops in there.:)

Although we've stayed at the CBR 6 times, we have never stayed in a pirate themed room. Now that the 2012 rates are out, we are contemplating changing from a standard room to a pirate room. I've read some past reports about the beds being uncomformtable. For those of you who have stayed in a pirate room recently, how were the beds?

I would like some info on this also. That is one of the reason we haven't booked a pirate room. That and I'm not sure if the curtain would freak my 3 year old dd out. She likes pirates but that is a little creepy for a 3 year old. LOL

Perhaps they would be able to replace the pirate curtain with a standard one, like the regular rooms have? Shouldn't be too hard to do for the duration of your stay. It's probably worth asking...?:)

We are headed to stay there for a week on 7/30 in a pirate room! going with our nieces and nephews and the one boy is 8 so he is very excited. will be sure to let everyone know how it is!

excited about the pool, but kind of bummed out that the pirate rooms have to be in the buildings so far away from the food court and all!

I wouldn't be too worried about the distance between the pirate rooms and the food court. I've walked over to Trinidad South (where the pirate rooms are) and my walks were 6 1/2 minutes and 7 minutes. It wasn't that bad.

We reserved a room with a king bed. Can anyone tell me, are the king rooms in each of the buildings? Should I still request the "island" I want to be in?

I have to laugh, because when we booked our pirate room and showed our sons the pictures my 6 year old said exactly that! Mom that curtain is pretty creepy! We figured we would just leave it open. We shall see on Monday when we arrive.
( My 4 year old wanted me to put this.)

I looked for this info on page one, but couldn't find it. Can anyone tell me in which order the busses pick up from each island? Does it start at the Customs House and go clockwise or counter-clockwise? And how long does it take to go all the way around in the bus? If you are one of the first stops on, is it another half hour around before you actually leave for the park?

Some buses start in Jamaica and others start in Martinique. They proceed clockwise around the lake. It takes about 7-8 minutes to make all the stops if you happen to get on at the first one. Once the bus leaves the resort it takes about 3 minutes to get to DHS, 5 to Epcot, 9 to DTD, and 11 to MK and AK.

We stayed in Aruba last week and out bus stop seemed to be the last one on most days. Other days it was second or third. I guess they take different routes sometimes. It doesn't take long for it to go around the resort.

The bus rides to the parks seemed much longer than that. Especially to DTD and MK. The buses to DTD and HS also made stops at the water parks.

The bus to DTD stops at Typhoon Lagoon, but it's the bus to AK that stops at Blizzard Beach. HS is literally across the street from Caribbean Beach.

I am going to tell you exactly what we experienced, not knowing if it is like this always or only during the time we were there so take me for a grain of salt. I am wierd about things like this and the organization of the bus systems capitivates me to the point I want to know what is going on.

1) The theme park buses do not stop at the custom house. Only the internal resort shuttle goes to custom house and that shuttle does not come near as often as you want it to.
2) It probably takes 10-15 minutes for a bus to make all of the stops at the property. This is what takes forever I thought at CBR. I got tired of having so many bus stops.
3) Magic Kingdom buses and DTD/TL buses always entered and went in this order: Martinique, Old Port Royale, Trinidad North, Trinidad South, Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados, exit at the front entrance.
4) Epcot, HS, and AK/BB buses always entered the side entrance and went in this order: Jamaica, Aruba, Barbados, Martinique, Old Port Royale, Trinidad North, Trinidad South, exit at the side entrance.
5) Just a note. DTD buses seemed to not come as often as theme park buses. Theme park buses seemed to come every 15 minutes, while DTD was more like 25 minutes. I guess it makes sense with not as many people going there as the theme parks though. Just to keep in mind.

Again don't know how often they change there routes, but Epcot, HS, and AK buses always entered and exited the side entrance while MK and DTD buses always entered and exited the front entrance. This was for the 9 days we were there in early June. I don't know if the system is that reliable, but that is at least what we experienced.
