Cargo carrier on top ?

Does a cargo carrrier on top of your SUV hurt your gas milage? We have 7 people in my SUV and we would love to be able to put some bags on top, has anyone seen a big change? Please help DAD .

Putting anything on the outside of any car is going to hurt your gas mileage. IMO, it's negligible though. Especially when you compare it to the cost of comfort in a long drive.

The trick is to try and use a hard top carrier--form fitting and nothing to catch the wind. You also want to get one that is designed to fit closer to the car, longer is better than taller.

To get the most room inside a cargo carrier, use duffle bags instead of suitcases.
