When do the applications normally go up?
It say's they're currently not recruiting.

Just curious so I know when to look out for them.
Thanks :)

From what I understand from a different thread on here ( I can't remember which) Disney is not doing a Career Start program this season. I know the person who got this info called to ask when apps would go up. I would suggest you call them and ask too. Especially if they haven't posted it on the website yet. Not to say I don't believe the person who posted that, but I think they need to say that multiple times and actually get around to posting they are not going to have one. :| its kinda horrible that they haven't already.

I keep hearing different things. Former CM told me he talked to a recruiter last week and they said they will be recruiting. Then someone said on here that they called monday or teusday and they said no program for Fall. I'm going to call tomorrow so I can know for sure.

Got an email today not recruiting this spring (for fall 2011) said to keep checking the page for updates.

Oh NO! My son is going to be so-o disappointed! He's been looking forward to applying for 2 years. I'm sure he's not the only one. :sad2:

I'll guess we'll just have to hope that they'll want to recruit in the fall. Does anyone know if they've had other years where they didn't recruit Career Start?

In 2009 they took a semester without recruiting CS. They didn't recruit Spring 2009 but they did Fall 2009 and all of 2010. I heard a rumor that they aren't recruiting this year at all so he may want to go to a local college and take one class just to be sure and apply for the CP. More jobs and choice on apartments. That's my plan as of now unless I hear about the applications for Cs beign released this summer.

I was a CS in spring 2010.:thumbsup2

I am REALLY hoping that they recruit this year for fall.:lovestruc I've been dieing to get back and I saw that they didn't recruit this year for spring.

There are rumors that they are doing away with the CS program all together at Disney Land, I wonder if they will also stop in Disney World when that happens?

I know though that in 2010 when I did my program, I meet about 3 other CSs my entire 6 months. I was hoping that maybe they would do what Disney Land does, which is not offering living for CS students, it would save money and they'd probably be able to keep the program.

But who knows.:confused3

Yeah I was a 2010 CS member but we had a pretty big group actually. I'm not sure why they aren't recruiting and I think they would take it away from Disneyland because it costs way too much to do the CS there. Most CS people are 17 when they apply. I know they didn't recruit for Spring 2009 either so maybe it's just something they are working on or whatever. You should go to a local CC and do the CP. That's what I'm going to do!:wizard::wizard:

Yeah I wanted to go to CC but I broke my ankle 3 days before class started and would have lost my FA, so I had to push my semester back to the fall, so I'm just going to do a CS in fall, along with online courses, then either CP or part time/Seasonal in the spring of 12.

Nice that's the CP I'm looking to do (Spring 12) so if you're down and I get in maybe we'll work together! If they offer CS this fall I will apply but it doesn't look like they're going too...:sad1:

Currently we are not recruiting for the Disney CareerStart Program at the Walt Disney World® Resort for our Fall 2011 arrival period. For future season information please refer to the CareerStart web site wdwcareerstart.com

Thats what I got back from the email I sent. Looks like no CS this year. >.<
I might just apply for a fall CP and see about doing a speed semester.

I'm not sure that there is much cost involved to Disney over and above the cost of using regular employees.

Does Disney pay any benefits to CS and CP participants besides allowing them room/ticket/dining discounts? Saving the cost of employee health benefits - not paid to CS and CP - is HUGE.

CS and CP pay for their housing.

Since CS and CP are basically paid intern positions and there is also college credit involved, I would bet that there are considerable tax breaks available to Disney. Tax breaks could include everything from property tax breaks for student housing to reduced payroll taxes.

The lack of CS recruiting could be that they have been inundated with CP applications the last couple of years and with park attendance down, there just might not be the need.

Then again, I'm just guessing. LOL

This is correct for the WDW Resort pretty much this WHOLE post is dead accurate. When it comes to Disneyland though even for the CP it costs a lot more for the participants to move because they don't have housing so instead of a $104.50 fee to hold your spot it's a lot more money...so that's why I think they would cancel it at DL if any cancellation rumors are true.

But I think the FLE has some reason to do with it and just the lack of CS applicants. I mean in Fall 2010 we had a lot but I noticed Spring 11 didn't has as many...or at least not on the facebook group anyways.

I thought that they didn't recruit for this spring for CS?

And yeah I think that they keep over booking the CP program and that stops them from recruiting. I herd that it happend in 2009.

No when they say they aren't recruiting this spring that means they aren't recruiting for the Fall term. Since they have to recruit for one term during the other term, sounds confusing haha. But they did recruit from like August/September-December for people to go Spring 2011.

ah I see. :( well boo to disney for now. Guess I'll be ridding up to casting next weekend.
