My daughter is going this August and when I called to see what goes on the first day I was told that basically I need to drop her off with her stuff and go away. (Of course they told me that very nicely.)

Now, she is bringing a foldable desk, a chair, her computer, a minifridge, and of course her clothes. That seems like a lot of luggage for her to handle herself.

So first - is she bringing too much? Also, am I allowed to help her move her stuff in or will they help her with that? Am I allowed to help her set up her computer and all that?

Here's the deal - when you arrive you check in at Vista. Your daughter alone will have to do the check in process. During that time you can wait in the car or go over to the parents and friends tent. I would recommend doing that. They have a large tent set up with literature to read, a tape running, and they have guided tours of the complex. It is very interesting and will really give you a sense of where your daughter will be spending her time.

After she completes the check in process you can meet back up. My daughter called me when she was done. It took about an hour and a half and we were there early; if you check in later it may take longer.

We met back up and then went to find her apartment. You are most certainly allowed to help her move in.

She will then have a housing meeting. The meeting lasts close to two hours. During the parent tour they said parents could attend but seating and first priority went to the students. I drove my daughter to it since it was at a different complex but I did not attend the meeting. Afterwards we did a Walmart run and had some dinner and then I took her back to the complex.

I was in the area so I did see her again the next day to take her for shoes and do a little shopping but there are buses for the kids to get where they need to go.

I would certainly recommend helping her move in and then encouraging her to go to the special activities they have to meet new friends. My daughter had a pool party I think on the second night to meet all the new participants.

So if she does go, I just wanted to get an idea of how long would be best for her to stay done there. She wants to make sure I'm settled. I would assume three days would be perfect. That includes getting there the day before check-in.

Well its complicated - -I actually was in the area for awhile as I went on to St Pete but for the purpose of my daughter we were there a few days in advance and did the parks (we have annual passes) and then I was there for her on check in day, the second day she just had a brief meeting and I took her shopping but back before the evening activities and then I was still at Disney the third day (it was my bday) but I did not see her at all that day. After that I went on to St Pete.

I think you are right that three days would be perfect. Day before check in, day of and next day.

Mini-fridges are not allowed - so I would leave that at home.

I'm so glad you told me that - the only things the literature says not to bring are pets, candles, and bikes!

Because they are not allowed, please don’t bring:

* Candles - Our fire codes prohibit you from burning them.
* Bicycles - Our facilities don’t have bike paths or storage facilities for them.
* Small refrigerators
* Pets of any type - including fish
* Weapons of any type - including pocket knives
* Hookah pipes
