Aside from the usual cookies, any other ideas for things to send to a college student living in a small dorm?

walmart gift cards, food they can't get where they are, pictures of pets and family, items that remind them of home

My mom is the queen of care packages!

If he/she has access to a microwave, then I'd send some Mac 'N Cheese Singles. Candy is good. Maybe a calling card to use to call home? A new shirt or sweater for this fall?

Thant's right my daughter loves to get pictures of our dog. Also it's always nice to get cards in their mailboxes

quarters for the laundry machines
gift certificate to a local restaurant
microwave popcorn
gift certificate to a local video store
laundry detergent (tablets are easiest)
picture frames
gift certificate to Walmart
postage stamps
post-it notes
drawings from the younger siblings or cousins

home made cookies are always THE BEST

(from a parent of two college students)

Ahhh - My mom was the MASTER care package person. Gosh I miss her.

She would always send a note, a check, quarters, Lipton Cup of soup, canned ravioli, hard candies, any newspaper clippings from home she thought I'd like to see. She sent me a few pound cakes etc. Sometimes she'd buy me a shirt, socks, underwear etc - silly things to make me feel like she was still taking care of me.

She had a wicked sense of humor. EVERY year for my birthday dinner I asked for the same thing - Her roasted pork with mashed potatoes, corn and gravy with the mushrooms and onions in it. Darn if that nasty woman didn't make my birthday dinner for everybody else and MAILED ME A POLAROID of a fully loaded plate for my birthday? :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I was thinking about what my parents sent to me when i went to college. I was starting to type a few suggestions for you and then had a good laugh. I wasn't ecen thinking about anythign except what my parents sent to me. I was about to suggest stamps to send letters. Can you beleive it? Mind you, I went to college in 1990. No one on my dorm floor even had a computer. I thought i was cool just because i had a word processor. I don't even think that many people write letters anymore. Well that was good for a laugh.

I liked when my parents sent some money, gum, toiletires, gift certificates to local fast food places. And here's another one from the past. Before cell phones i used a pay phone and my mom would send some prepaid phone cards for me to call her.

LOL.. I get requests from Other kids on my son's dorm floor.. for COOKIES!!

I send T-shirts, newspaper clippings, a new pair of nail clippers ( he loses them all the time) $20 for GOOD PIZZA.. pictures of family, friends and pets... also I will send a photo or two of him from HighSchool or Grade School... His new friends like to see what their new buddy use to be....

EZ Mac, bubble gum, cheese and crackers... oh I have sent water guns, paddle balls and yo yo's... Ya.. it makes them Laugh :rotfl:

I would not send gift cards - because if the magnetic strip in the card gets demagnitized the gift cards are no good!!

Try the online bookstore at their campus - sometimes you can get them an account there and buy things or let them buy stuff!!

I like sending Mrs Field's cookies - extra special treat!! I save the Sunday comics to mail to them...my ds likes this one brand of suckers (of all things!) lol so I'll mail him that - the other son is a music majore, him I send reeds for his bassoon!!

At my one sons school they dont use quarters for laundry, they have an ID card connected to everything that you load up with, what else cash - then you can swipe all vending machines and laundry machines its a debit card - but its thru the college banking and seems to be secure!!
