My little girl is diabetic. We found out in October. After a few days of hospitl stay, she is doing fine. So to celabrate her continuing good health (besides the Diabetes thingie) we are going to WDW in November.

Does anyone know where I can get a list of carbs for Children's menu's and snacks around the WDW areas?

Thanks.

Sorry I cannot help you with a carb list, but I wanted to say hi. My 4 yr old son is also a diabetic...diagnosed two years ago. We are headed to WDW in October. We usually estimate carbs based on "knowns" that are familiar to us like chicken nuggets, mac n cheese, etc when we eat out. Ice cream varies widely though, but I bet those bars in paper wrappers have carbs listed on them. My son has a very limited range of appetite, so that "helps." :rolleyes2 Another place to check is the childrenwithdiabetes.com website. They might be able to give you some info if you don't find what you are looking for here. Good luck to you!

You can tell the person taking your PS's over the phone that your daughter is Diabetic. They will supply you with the phone numbers for the head chefs at each restaurant that you choose. You can then work out meals with them. I am a celiac (No gluten) and that is what they do for me. It makes my trip quite easy. All my best to your family for a wonderful vacation! -Paula ::MickeyMo

We are getting very good at the guestamate thingie after several months of trial and error. I mainly want the info so that I can add some treats to Her diet while there.

Thanks for the help.

Do you do carb ratios? (For example 30 extra carbs = 1 extra unit of Humalog) If not, you might want to talk to your dr about that before you go. All endo's are different, but mine did not want us to do carb ratios until about a year after my son had been diagnosed...for some reason. :confused3 If yours is agreeable or if you are already doing that, it could really help with those additional treats.

A couple other things to consider: in addition to bringing along extra supplies, get a prescription for everything to take along with you when you travel...just in case. Also, make sure your glucagon kit is with you in the park...all the extra exercise could cause an unexpected low. Have you told your resort that your daughter has diabetes? You might want to to ensure that you have a refrigerator in the room to store meds and re-freeze cold packs.

Have a wonderful trip!

We don't do the exchange thing. Usually when I want to treat her I reduce her carb intake at the meal by adding non-carb/lower carb food. To do this I need to know the carb levels, which i don't at WDW :(

The frig. thing is no problem, we have a camper with an extra frig. The other ideas are great Thanks.

Yeah, that's what we always did, too. My son would eat grilled chicken and pears for supper in order to get dessert -- just to ensure that he did not go over his carb count. We hardly ever use the ratio thing, but it certainly helps with special occassions where cake and ice cream are involved. ;)

edited to add: Just wanted to say that I am a Louisiana girl, too. I am originally from Hammond and my next door neighbors are from Lafayette.

On the grilled chicken note, Sci Fi Dine In has grilled chicken with green beans and roasted potato wedges on it's kids menu. My DD8 has eaten it both times we've eaten there, I'm sure if the potato was an issue they could do double green beans. Good luck, my SIL is a juvenile diabetic, has lived with it for 30 years. DH also has a cousin and aunt that are juvenile, I try to watch my girls closely.

Don't know if this will help you or not, but last week when we were at WDW we noticed that at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street in MK and at the food court at Port Orleans Riverside they had signs that the ice cream is Edy's Ice Cream. (I am assuming that Edy's has a contract with WDW and it is probably the only ice cream that is now being sold in the parks/resorts - but am not positive) If your daughter likes ice cream you could go to your local supermarket and check the carbs on the Edy's Ice Cream containers of her favorate flavors.

Good Luck
