I want to attempt waxing my own car, but I am looking for some pointers. I have waxed cars before, but I'm just not getting the perfect job done. Any pointers? Anyone tried those new spray on high gloss waxes? (Or is that polish? See, I need help!)

I have waxed my car in the past, boy is that a lot of work! Evidentally, I dont do a good enough job, because my paint started to oxidize, and it was recommended that I have a pro do it... I did that about a month ago and my car looked brand new. Now that they got the dead paint off, and it looks red again, I am going to try maintaince waxing on my own.

No tips really... just wanted to share that if your paint is in really bad shape, you might want to consider having a pro do the tough stuff, and then maintain it after that with frequent waxes.

I have been told that waxing is all about ELBOW GREASE and HARD WORK.

=)

No, my car is new, so the paint looks great. It makes me nervous that somehow I'll screw up what already looks good! I just want to KEEP it looking nice.

Have you seen Karate Kid??? "Wax on.....wax off...." lol!! I have always waxed my own cars. Get a good quality wax, and follow the directions. Make sure the car is not hot from being in the sun, do not wax in the sunlight. Garage works great!!!
Every now and then you may need to use a new towel to wipe the wax off with, as the wax tends to "clog" on the towel, and it makes removing the wax difficult.
Try not to get the wax on any plastic trim, sometimes it will not come off.
If you feel extra ambitious, use q-tips to get excess wax out of the cracks and crevices.
I love the feeling of waxing my car, I once had a car I waxed every 2 weeks....it had a beautiful finish!!
Good luck!
