Maybe this is a stupid question....

Are car warranty's negotiable....the end date? My car has been nothing but trouble since the day I bought it. It's a Lemon....really, it is.

Anyways, I have less than 1000 miles over the warranty & have just been told I need all new Tie Rods & Ball Joints :headache: I'm not a car person....so I have no idea what those even are.....but apparently it'll cost me alot.

Do I have any chance of getting this covered if my warranty expired within the past month?

Also.... Is that normal @ 37k miles?

Thanks

Try talking to the service manager of the car dealership. Sometimes, for a good customer, they will cover at least part of the repair when the vehicle is just barely out of warranty. This is not an extension of the warranty but a goodwill gesture on the part of the dealership.

Really, the only way the warranty date can be extended is if you purchase(d) an extended warranty.

If there has been previous issues of repair on your vehicle, then your paperwork would be proof of previous history.

I am curious. What vehicle do you have? Buying a vehicle that does not have a good reputation (which I would never recommend!) should be a "warning" that you may have big troubles too.

My own car broke down.......500 miles after the warranty expired. I had to pay for the repairs myself. That's the name of the game!

You should also take it to an independent mechanic for a second opinion.

If the vehicle has been constant trouble you should have raised heck BEFORE the warranty ran out - I have known people who were given an extended warranty, but all cases were before the original warranty had actually expired. Still, it might not hurt to complain to the service manager, dealership owner, regional or national people...

If its just tie rods and ball joints, take it. It is possible they could go bad at 37k miles. Not likely, but possible. I dont believe tie rods and ball joints would be covered under standard warranty anyways, as they are deemed 'wear and tear' parts, sorta like brake pads would not be covered under warranty. (unless they were defective brake pads).

Hubby is a fixed op mgr at a Ford Volvo (also has Toyota and Scion, he doesn't deal with that much though), he said tie rod and ball joints are covered under the warranty. Have you taken to the dealership for all your work, including oil changes? The service manager might go to the manufacturer to try and get your tie rod ends and ball joints covered. He (my hubby) will go the distance for his customers and sometimes (not always) can get them to cover these things or a portion.
