Car vs No Car?

It's been recommended by past CP'ers that they wished they had a car during their program.

I'd like to hear other opinions.

Has anyone rented a car for the duration of the internship? Hertz has a month by month program that would cost about 2500-3000.

Do most CP'ers have a car? I don't want to be everyones personal taxi driver.

Thanks

A lot of CPers do have cars. But 2 of my best friends made it through one program and one of them is making it through a second program easily without a car. The other one lives in Orlando and is seasonal at Disney with no car. Just have to get used to the bus schedule. Also for 2500-3000 you could buy a car for the CP, I wouldn't go that route personally.

I got around just fine without a car for the 7 months I was there on my first program. None of my roommates had a car, either, until the last two months of our program. The buses take you to the necessary places you need to go; if you really want to go somewhere in Orlando/another place in Florida, you can take a bus or a cab. And there are enough people with cars around that I'm sure the vast majority of people makes friends with at least one person who has a car.

Having a car is definitely beneficial if you like driving places yourselves or want to go to other places around Orlando/other parts of Florida, but you don't NEED it.

My plan is to just use the bussing and what not while down there. I think having a car would be great, but this way I dont have to drive across the country or worry about gas and other costs associated with having a car.

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll just use the busses. I thought people had issues with the transportation provided

Not to mention it would be wise to offer people gas money in exchange for trips to Walmart/Car pooling for work. It may seem annoying now but with gas the way it is and it being even higher in Orlando due to loads of tourist. I think many fellow cast members would be thrilled with a free 10 bucks in gas.

Yes, keeping up with the bus schedule can be very hectic and problematic. Car would be more convenient. However, If you do not have a car, make friends that do!

Using the bus system is simple, Get there early and you will always be on time. People complain because they try to grab the bus 5 minutes before it gets there. After the bus pulls out, even if they see you, most will not and cannot stop. It's a safety issue that they follow religiously. I was there for 6 months and was never late for work. They bring you to all the necessary places you would need like the grocery store and walmart. Next time, I do plan on bringing a car though, now that I know my way around. You can fit more groceries in a car then you can a crowded CP bus anyways!! :)

BRING YOUR CAR. I personally never took the buses, but all of my roommates that did always went to the stop early, would get the bus to get them to work early, and would almost always be late. they break down ALL THE TIME. With a car, being late is your own responsibility. and you can save your self time driving, it is only about 10 minutes where as the bus you need to leave at least an hour early. bring your car!
