So I am starting to put up new car things for our trip in Sept. DD is easy, she is 5. DS, on the other hand, not so easy at 16 mos!

Here is what our travel schedule LOOKS like:
Sept. 21- Leave at 7PM, drive thorugh, stopping for gas, potty, etc...
Sept. 22- Stop about 7AM for breakfast, find a MCD's or similar with play area so the kids can get stretched out. Arrive at WDW about 10:30AM.

Sept. 30- Leave for home about 3PM, stop for the night about 9PM.
Oct. 1- Leave about 8AM. Stop somewhere in TN for picnic lunch about noon. Leave about 2PM. Arrive home around 6PM.

So, either he is sleeping, or there are breaks, but I still will need things for him to do in the car. What do you suggest? What has worked for your little ones? TIA

The GrandPrincess loves those little scribble boards--with a magnetic "pen" that writes (pen's attached to the board with a string). She also watches Baby Einstein on the portable DVD player looks at books. We've gotten some of the foam blade little fans and I can't believe how much she amuses herself with one of those. It probably won't work anymore by the time you get to Disney, but ours came from a dollar store so we weren't too worried. She also loves to play ball, so we have some of those water balls--you're supposed to soak them in water but we just play with them dry. (The only problem with them is if you lose them into the back of the SUV/van you can't retrieve them easily). She also gets a lot of fun out of one of those light-up twirly toys (the kind you buy at WDW for $12 and up). We ordered a couple $3 ones from Oriental Trader and she loves to turn them on and off, watch the lights. . . I think you can find them at dollar stores and the Marts. She also likes to play with stickers--we just use the free address labels we get in the mail and stuff like that. At 18 months, she doesn't care what's on them--it's just fun to stick them to herself and her car seat. She has a newborn Cabbage patch doll, and she spends a lot of time playing with it, giving it a bottle and such.

zaza, I was going to say the same thing! my little one loves his magna doodle, I just took the stampers that came with it away because everything went in his mouth when he was younger. I would draw pictures and he would try to guess what they were, we did this for a good couple of hours in the car on the way down to WDW. It worked like a charm. also because he's still in a booster seat, I found these metal trays at Wal-Mart up by the check out that I just unfold and put over his lap, and he has coloring books his toy cars ect. and it is really easy for him to eat his snacks with the tray as well, and it was only like $3.00. Good luck and have fun!!

Thanks guys! I have a travel magnadoodle, and many things for 5 yo DD, but that's it. I'm off to check that website!

Her Dolly that she sleeps with every night. I did a lot of 4- or 10-hour car trips when DD was about that age. Brought books, toys, dolls. Everything but Dolly ended up on the floor. Or, worse yet, tossed back at the driver as a game.

Does your son have something that he absolutely loves? That worked better for us than something small / new.

Unfortunately he hasn't formed a bond with anything yet. Maybe before we go. I thought a tub of new unseen things would be good.
