Do you prefer car service or taxi to transfer from WDW to Universal? What was your typical cost? Do you have any recommendations or pitfalls to avoid?

We are traveling from Poly to PBH on Apr 30. After 3 days at Universal, we will then also need to get from PBH to MCO.

We are not interested in renting a car or traveling on a public bus. I have narrowed it down to a car service or a taxi but I can't seem to make a decision. Help! We have never been to Universal.

TIA:goodvibes

The best way is to go with Mears...they have service from Disney to Universal. The round trip fare is $18.00/per person and arrangements have to be made 24 hours in advance.

A towncar will run about $60-70 r/t from WDW resorts to US/IoA. That's what we're doing this summer. There are three of us, so it would be $60 to ride the Mears bus...why not spend a wee bit more and have a car to ourselves, when we want it.

I agree about using a town car service. The first Disney Cruise we took, we used the Disney transport (I assume it was Mears, but don't remember) and it was wait here, line up here, load on bus like cattle, stop at this hotel, stop, stop, stop. The next Disney Land/Sea vacation we took, we hired a town car service. They picked us up at the baggage area of the airport (had our name on a sign) then took us to hotel and we even asked for a 30 min grocery stop on the way to hotel (which was included in price) so we could stock up on soda and snacks for the room. It was a great difference. A taxi would also be a better idea than a bus, but the car services are so nice and you know the price on their website is per trip, where you never know what the price in a cab will be until the meter stops.

Thanks for the info. So, what do you think it would be $$$ for my 2 leg trip? One way Poly to PBH on Apr 30 + one way PBH to MCO on May 3? Will a towncar fit 4 people plus all our luggage or should we get a van or limo?

i'll help you since i know where pewaukee is located.....:goodvibes

i suggest if you want to do a town car, do a google and email them for their site. you can check their rates cost then.

i would list some of the town car services here but quite a few have been banned from the dis.

i can't list them due to the dis rules.

this is a long list of vehicles for hire out of mco

i am doing town car and am using a discount code to bring a 3 leg trip to $140 total.
i go from mco to disney
disney to universal
universal to mco

if you are using ME from mco to disney, you can use car service for transferring from disney to universal and then universal to mco.

that would be considered a round trip fare.
a free grocery stop would be included in that booking if you wanted it.

there are some companies, again, i can not list their names here, with a discount code used, could make that RT a tad less than $100.

i've done it all ways.
car rental
taxi
car service for 2 leg trips and 3 leg trips
ME and car service
etc

i prefer car service

yes, car service can be used for 4 people

Thanks macraven:flower3: Yes, I am a little north and west of your location. So are you Oak Creek or Kenosha-ish?? Or south-of-the-border?

Any chance you could pm me companies you have used and like? or give me a "sounds like"? I never know what is and is not within the DIS rules.

Thanks for your help. Town car service sounds quite reasonable and convenient.

i'm a few miles from kenosha but do a lot of shopping in wisconsin.

have friends in pawaukee area.
son had lived in a couple of cities up there.

if i send a pm and name names, they would be automatically starred out of the pm.
when a company is not to be listed on the dis, a poster can get in trouble and get points against them if they try to avoid the filter banning on certain companies.

I feel for you living along that stretch. All the road construction.:sad2: We love living in the Lake Country area. Close to everything but still enjoying open spaces. Pure suburpia.

No problem regarding the car service companies. I will research them via orlando area websites and such. I have no intentions to anger the beast ;) I hope to have a decision made by the end of the weekend so I can wrap up my vacation plans with the exception of my garden grocer order.

Thanks!

The stretch of I-4 from Orlando to Tampa is a nightmare too. I don't think it will ever be finished. :sad2:

Have to agree with 'most' of this post. But...there have only been two towncar companies that have been banned from DIS board discussion..and with pretty good reason. There are a ton of companies out there...most with very good reputations. Just wanted to clear that statement up..not 'quite a few' but two.

macraven is it cheaper to get a taxi for 4 people from the airport, says about $33 or rent a car $56 from Hertz/$38 from Budget. I was going to take a taxi but traffic at 8am on weekday? We also wanted to make a soda/snack stop at Walgreens on the way in? I don't have much taxi experience:confused3
