Hello! We are planning our first family trip to Disney this year. Our son will be 2 1/2 then and will naturally still be in a car seat. Can you tell me what the policy is re: car seats? Mainly, on the transportations to and from restorts and parks etc.

Thanks so much

You can't use a car seat on the Disney buses and monorail.

Most people do not use car seats on shuttles like Mears, but I think it is possible to use one.

Most people use car seats with Town Cars.

You also may or may not want the car seat on the plane. The advantage is that it keeps your child restrained. The disadvantage is that it gives them that extra few inches to reach the seat in front of them with their feet.

I agree!! And, let me tell you, the advantage far outweighs the disadvantage (provided that no one is in the seat in front of you). :goodvibes

We take it with us on the plane b/c DS knows what is expected of him when he's in that carseat. No worries about him wiggling around or getting restlest in flight.

Can someone tell me what the general rule is regarding belt-positioning booster seats? Both in regards to on the airplane and in FL.

Here in MI, my dd uses a belt-positioning booster. I'm not actually sure if it's the law or not, but she's petite so we continue to use it. Can it go on the plane at gate check (or even to use on the plane)? There's no back on it....it's just the seat with arm rests.

What are the laws in FL regarding child safety seats? We plan on renting our own car. Are 6 y.o.'s required to be in a booster at that age?

Thanks!

pjynx ~ you will not be able to use your belt positioning booster on the plane. Belt positioning boosters are only meant to be used with shoulder belts and planes only have waist belts. What we do when we travel is put the backless boster in a duffle bag and check it with our luggage. You could probably carry it on the plane too, but it's just one more thing to carry on that you don't actually need while in the plane.

Not positive on the FL laws regarding children and boosters; I have seen it here before and I remember the age limit being younger than it is here in MA (the age limit is 5 here). If your DD uses one at home, I would have her use one on vacation too. The experts recommend children stay in boosters until they are 85 lbs now or tall enough that the seat belt stays properly positioned without a booster. HTH

Nope, 4 and up can just use a seatbelt in FL, not that that is what I am recommending.

Here's a link: Click here to Florida's DOT site and the rules about seat belts & car seats.
Children ages 6-17 must be belted when in either the front or rear seats of a vehicle....All 50 States and the District of Columbia have primary child restraint laws. Florida's law requires all children under six years of age to be properly restrained. Children through age three must be secured in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child safety seat, and for children four through five years of age a separate carrier, an integrated child safety seat, or a safety belt must be used.
Personally, I think Florida's laws in the area of child restraint devices are a little lax though. That's JMHO.

Cheryl
