Car seats on the plane?

Do you really need to have a car seat for a 2 1/2 year old on the plane?

we never took a car seat while flying. We always found it to be too much hassle to lug it around. Our kids have always been good little travelers though, never wanted to wander off or got out of their seats much. I know a lot of people use it to keep their little busy bodies confined

It is bulky for us to lug around. However, we find it helps our kids to not only stay in their seat but it is a routine that is familiar. I think it somehow lets them know that they are expected to sit still just as they do in the car.

We always check our girls seats (5 & 4), but bring our sons seat onto the plane for this very reason! He's a very busy 2 year old!

We have never taken a car seat for our kids and they have flown A LOT. Never had a problem and they always seemed to like sitting in the seat with the regular seat belt, made it seem extra special. Car seats are a major pain and hassle to drag thru the airport especially if you are alone.

We bring our car seats on board with us. We bring them on for safety reasons. If we happen to be involved in a survivable plane crash or rough turbulance, I want my girls where they will be safest. Regardless of the hassle.

We'll be bringing DD's with us next month. She knows the seat and knows she must be buckled in so no arguing.

Its not required but the FAA, TSA and Amer Academy of Pediatrics all recommend using a carseat on aircraft until the 40lbs mark.

We are past carseat age but we used them for air travel until about age 3 - 3 1/2 depending on the child mostly because we felt safer and needed them for ground transportation anyway. If your using ME and exclusively WDW transportation then I think it would be very tempting to leave the seat behind as you can't use it on the buses. If your going to need one for a rental then you may as well use it in the aircraft as the child will be safer as will the integrity of the carseat.

Another benefit of a car seat is that your child sits higher and can more eaily see out of the window.
