Car seats on planes

We flew last month when DD was 1 yr, 11 months. Technically, a lap child, but since we were bringing her carseat with us anyway and the flights weren't full, they allowed us to install it.

Now, we are flying again next month, when DD will be 2 yrs, 1 month. Since she will now be over the age of 2 where she requires her own purchased seat, will they still allow us to install a car seat for her on the flight, or does she need to be belted in like an adult because she is over that magical age of 2? She's pretty wiggly and I would feel lots safer with her in a 5 pt harness. Do the airlines have an age or weight cutoff for carseat use?

Thanks!

Yes you can definitely bring and use her car seat. Just be sure it has an FAA approved tag or label on it somewhere.

Car seats are never required for children in airplanes and booster seats cannot be used.

I'm guessing that the only limitation for a carseat on a plane is the size limit of the carseat itself. In other words, as long as your child is small enough to safely ride in it in a car AND it fits the airplane seat AND it is FAA approved you should be able to use it.

We have Britax Marathons and have successfully used those on planes.

Have a great trip!

You can still use the carseat. That being said, on our last trip we used the Cares Harness for DGD age 3. It was so much easier than lugging the carseat through the airport. (We didn't need the carseat while in Orlando due to using ME and staying onsite.) If you aren't familiar with it just do a google search.
We rented it from someone on Ebay and it worked great. DGD felt like a "bid kid" and we felt that she was safe in it.

I loved the carseat for my two year old -- he knew that he was expected to stay seated because he's used to his carseat. It made the flight much easier! Good luck.

I don't think there is any such thing as an FAA approved child seat that does not fit in a plane seat.

Then so as long as the seat is not too small for your child, you can use it aboard the plane and it will not count as part of your baggage allowance.

You might be required to gate check a non-FAA approved seat regardless of how young the child is.
