Car seats for taxi journeys

My DDs will be four, and 16 months when we travel next Feb. We won't be bringing any car seat with us, as the airline supplies a special seat for the younger one, the towncar company provides them, and we won't be hiring a car.

We love using Disney transport, but if we want to occasionally make life a little easier, what is the situation if we want to take a taxi from one WDW resort to another? Will we be allowed to do it, or would we have to be able to provide a car seat for the toddler, or even for both?

I too have 2 kids in carseats. I booked Murray Hill transportation and they provide carseats. You get one for free with your booking. If you need and extra (which you don't) it's only $5.00. Hope this helps.

I asked this question before and was told that lots of taxis in the Disney area do have carseats available. Just let the driver know you need a carseat and if he doesn't have one he can call a driver who does.

Thank you both for that very handy info. :D

Just to check will I need to ask the taxi driver for any kind of car seat for my elder DD who will be four and a half, or will she be okay with a seat belt?

Thanks Bev - so they don't even need a booster seat?

Taxi rules are different than "normal" vehicle rules. In NYC there are no carseats in cabs and millions of children travel in them all the time. Granted it's not the "safest" thing, however, toting around a carseat for when you want to use a taxi isn't practical.

Florida law requires children under 3 to be in a CSR. FL law also exempts TAXI's and other public means from the law so if you are comfortable taking a taxi with your children you will not be breaking florida law.

Many taxi's will have a CSR appropriate for your toddler but since the law dosen't require your 4yo to use one most don't have a booster for an older child.

If your talking legal - you can jump in a car anywhere on WDW property with your children and not worry about breaking any law.

Have a great trip.

Many thanks for your help everyone. We're probably only going to be taking a taxi once - to get back to OKW quickly and easily after an evening at AKL, rather than have to mess around with two different buses. It's good to be assured that this won't be a huge problem - thank you.

My sister owns a cab company and they have car seats. When you call for a cab make sure you tell them you are traveling with small children. Ask them if they have car seats. I think in big cities they may not have them. But if you call for a cab they can take the car seats with them.

When you take the taxi from AKL to OKW, just have the valet at AKL take care of it for you. Tell them you'll need a cab with a car seat for your toddler, and they'll make sure the cab that shows up has one. Don't worry, the AKL valets will take of you.

Okay, so here's where you can tell I'm a Brit. I think that sounds like a great idea, but now I'm all worried, wondering how much I should tip the valet for this service!?!

I'd give him a couple of dollars.
