We are going to be there for 8 days and staying offsite. We are renting a car but just wanted to know if I should get a “cheapy” car seat to take with me that I would have to carry down and back or should I just use the rent a cars rental car seats? My son is 2 will be almost 3 and we will not be using the car seat on the airplane itself.

granted this was years ago and a nonDisney trip but we ended up with a broken carseat on arrival. we arrived after stores in area had closed and had a 40 minute ride from airport to where we were staying. had no choice but hold our older infant. got no help from airline. have also heard scary stories from rental seats, so it is a no win situation. if it were me I would look into car services that provide carseats and have someone else drive rental there either stopping and buying "cheapy" or having it sent to where you are staying. you could always rethink the not using on plane and use it so you know it was not dropped.

If you do decide to use one on the plane make sure that it is FAA approved. It will have it somewhere on the seat and will have a pic of an airplane or say something like Aircraft or FAA approved.

We bring our own down since they aren´t too expensive, and they are light. In your case, I would just get the cheap one at Walmart: $50.00. The weight limit is 40 pounds.

We used the one at the rental company gave us first time we rented a car and will never do that again, especially now with questions on how they are cleaned. It was very poor quality. Our son is in a booster now but for the few trips following that we just took our own, ordered a car seat bag and gate checked it on the plane. We are having a second child now and I might consider a second more light weight car seat to travel with for him, our other one is very heavy and hard to carry through the airport.

I would never trust my child's life to a car seat I did not know the history of. I brought my son when he turned 4 and had him in his car seat on the plane, it kept him contained, comfortable and we got to board early. My wife created a system of straps that had his seat attached to my carryon for the trip through the airport. I'm sure there are instructions available on Pinterest.

We rely on DME so that we don't have to travel with car seats. We're following threads with car seat suggestions so that when DME stops in 2022, we'll have a plan.

I would bring my own car seat and gate check it. I feel like gate checked items suffer less damage than if you checked it in at the counter. Most airlines allow you to gate check 1 car seat and 1 stroller for free.

you will not know the history of your own seat once you gate check it. have seen a number of seats fall to ground off belt loading on plane plus one trip not Disney but still a plane to a broken seat

not always we had seat returned broken appeared to either dropped down steps or fell off ramp loading into plane and gate checking doesnt stop either of these and you will not be told if it happens. no one would do anything to help when our seat was cracked and too late to buy after we arrived and could not explain what had happened

Where in my post is there anything about Gate Checking it? I would have the child in the seat on the plane.

Try the cosco scenera next, it’s cheaper then a rental and it will be new! However how big is your son? My almost 3 year old still fits but she is 50% for height and weight, my older daughter was 75% for weight and 90% for height and it was a tight fit at 3. We love this seat, it’s been to Europe, Florida, California, I highly recommend it. But my kids use it on the plane, so I know where it’s been? Hoping my next trip is my last with car seats, I’ll move to a rider vest for the younger one when she is big enough.

I would bring our own seat and use it on the plane for a child that young. If that was not an option for some reason I would bring my own seat to use in the rental car.
