Car seat needed on Disney transport?

Hi all,

Forgive me if I've missed the answer here somewhere but I've searched and can't seem to find it. We will be making our first Disney World trip next month with my 4 year old daughter. We are flying with Magical Express and planning to use available Disney transportation (no rental car). Do I need to bring her car seat for use on the airport shuttle, Disney buses or monorail?

Welcome to the DIS boards!! You will not be able to use a car seat on any of the Disney transportation. There are no seat belts to strap one into. But rest assured...the transportation vehicles (boats, buses, monorails) are all very safe. Same goes for DME buses.

Simple answer to your question - a child seat isn't allowed. As to whether or not it is *needed* and exactly what a child seat would add/subtract from the safety of travel on the busses and monorail, that has lead to heated debates on this board.

And the reason car seats aren't allowed is because there are no seat belts on those modes of transport. Without being secured by a seat belt, a car seat potentially becomes a dangerous missile.

And it's not that Disney is unsafe in not having seat belts in its DME motor coaches (think a plush touring coach) or Disney Transport buses (think a CLEAN city bus) -- you'd be hard pressed to find similar types of buses ANYWHERE equipped with seat belts.

I know you don't know me, but let me just tell you that my wife and I are VERY safety conscious due to each of our jobs, and we had no qualms about our 5 and 2.5 year olds on those vehicles last year, and the same for our now 6 and 4 year olds this coming November.
