Hi,
We are thinking of NOT bringing the car seat on the plane for my daughter (2YO), BUT now we are re-thinking???

If you opt NOT to use the Disney Magical Express, and instead get a Taxi or some other car service (NOT RENTING)....will she need the car seat? I am thinking YES, but I have no idea!

Thanks so much!

Well yes if she is in a car then she should be in a car seat... use DME then you do not have to worry about a car seat

Yes, you will need the car seat! However, most all the car services rent them. How you feel about that is your own business. Some people find rented seats icky, while others assume they are properly cleaned between uses and go for it.

I'd think you would want the seat on the plane as well, though.

Have fun!

We used Tiffany towncars and they provided a car seat. Just ask for one when you call in to make a reservation. they also will give you a free grocery stop.

Us too. We needed one carseat and one booster. They were not the top of the line seats, but I felt that they were safe, and installed properly, not to mention free!

Oh, I would so bring a carseat. First, my daughter always treated the plane like the car. She knew she couldn't get out and usually went to sleep. If she was just strapped in to the seat, I KNOW she would have bugged me to get out.

You can use it on Magical Express and taxis.

Just my humble opinion. :)

We used Southern Elegance, and they provided car seats (both foward facing and booster) for our kids. You'll definitely want a car seat if you're taking a taxi or towncar. :)

I would want one on the plane, we too treat planes like cars, you get on and get in the seat and that is it. When the plane stops you get out. Makes life so easy. DS usually goes to sleep. I would definately want my own if going from the airport to Disney, so much traffic, so many people driving not exactly sure where they are going. I just feel better that way. I do not know about FL laws in taxis and towncars, although I would think a towncar would be treated like a regular car and the law would apply.

FACT: You CAN'T use a car seat on a Disney's Magical Express bus, or on a Disney Transport bus (the buses that go from resorts to parks). The reason is that buses do not have seat belts. Without seat belts, car seats are dangerous and are not permitted.

People who use a car seat on the plane and then use DME to go from airport to resort will have the DME driver load the seat in the bus cargo bay, and you'll get it back as soon as you arrive at your resort.

I would just take DME and skip the carseats altogether. We never take them and the kids are fine on the plane. princess:

As for a Taxi.... when we were on a trip and wanted to use our car seats in a taxi, the seatbelts were buried in the seat crack. My husband found one seat belt, but we couldn't find the other...later I thought about how risky it probably was for him to stick his hand down in the seat of a Taxi of all things....who knows what was down there. The whole time the taxi driver is saying "They aren't required to be in a car seat in a taxi" and wasn't offering to help find seatbelts. It was the most terrifying 20 min I have ever spent in a taxi with my two unrestrained kids. Anyway, I will never use a Taxi when traveling with kids again. If you have the option of a towncar or DME I would use those.

HTH

We were needing to have transport for VERY EARLY check-in on the day we switch hotels because of ADR. I got to thinking about needing a carseat for my 3 yr old. Now I'm renting a towncar instead of a taxi. :)

My DD is 6 and weighs 40lbs. She rides in a booster here at home. This is our first time flying, does she need this on the plane? We are also planning on renting a car. Do we do this at the airport or is there a place on site to do this? Is she big enough to just use a regular seatbelt or does she still need the booster? Thanks everyone for your help in advance.

She does not need it for the plane in fact plain booster seats are not allowed on the plane. In Florida by law she does not need a booster.

Technically she does not need a booster in a car here in Florida BUT.... the Federal recommendation is that until a child is 4'9" they should be in some sort of car seat.
