car rentals, early June

We're driving to FL in less than 10 days and our minivan rental has not dropped one bit in over 2 months! Has anyone seen a drop? We leave June 7 and retunr June 17. I have $455 from Alamo, using Walmart code for free extra driver and a $25 coupon code. Budget, National, Avis, and Enterprise are all higher. (we have no Thrifty or Dollar)

When you are trying to get lower rates, what do you do? I clear my cookies daily and I check each rental site. I check each code. But I'm wondering if that's worth the trouble, because if the base rate doesn't drop, is there a chance that the code will be worth more of a discount? I'm thinking no, but I check any way.

Any other advice?

Thanks!
chris

I just went through priceline today. My minivan hadn't dropped a whole lot ($373 for 10 days with Alamo) Went on Priceline this morning, bid $13 a day (just to see) and it came back and said that if I upped my bid to $17 a day, I could have it. So at $17 a day plus taxes/fees...My rental is now $240.25 for 10 days...and get this, it's STILL with ALAMO! No changes whatsoever except it's prepaid now..

This is the first time I've ever used Priceline, so hopefully I won't have any issues at the rental counter.

try all the codes at Mousesavers at the different dealers. I think you could get a better price at Dollar. good luck. I got an intermediate for a weekend in July for $79 all inclusive at Dollar.

Wow, that bizarre! I will have to give Priceline a try and see what happens. I've never used it before. Do you have a second driver with your rental? That is one thing I'm worried about because we are driving from PA to FL and I don't think hubby would like to have drive it all himself!

I tried it, and I just got a rejection. I didn't get an offer to up my bid. I will have to try it again in 72 hours.

Where are you renting from - at an airport or a neighborhood location. It looks like there are lots of neighborhood deals right now.

Airport location at Alamo. I'll have to look around their website and see if there is anything close to us that is neighborhood. I think the closest is over an hour and a half away so I'm not sure that it would be worth it. We'd probably spend in gas going back and forth what we'd save on the rental. But I will definitely check it out. Thanks!
