Car Rental?

Only one more week until we can leave cold, windy Michigan!!! We'll be pulling our 14' enclosed utility trailer with our golf cart, so we're not bringing our Jeep Wrangler this time. We didn't want our daughter and son-in-law to have to pull it with their 35' gasser through the mountains.

Can anyone tell us the best place to rent a small car for 5 (including one car seat) for a week? Maybe one that delivers and picks up right from the Fort? Also, where's the closest store to replenish milk, bread, and beer supplies? We drove to Walmart last time, but we were hoping there was someplace a little closer.

My BFF usually rents a car when she goes down alone but 3 weeks ago when she did the price had jumped over double in cost! Don't know if it's spring break prices but at that cost I'd ride Disney transportation. She has found in the past a place that will p/u at the airport and shuttle you to their place to be the cheapest but that's when she flies in! Generally its cheaper to rent away from an airport I discovered! ALso depending on how long you are staying a month rental might be cheaper than a weekly rental. I turned one in ear ly and wasn't charged more. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that but tips can be helpful at times...good luck!

Alamo/National Car Rental have two sites on WDW. The closest to the Fort is next to the service station right outside the Magic Kingdom gate. I believe they have a shuttle bus that will pick you up and drop you off at the front desk. You can check online for their prices and reserve a car. I have used them for business a couple of times and was satisfied.

There are a number of places to get supplies and food. Right outside the property by Downtown Disney has a little shopping area, forget the name of the grocery store there but it is a well known chain. Someone will know it. It tends to cost a little more than if you drive further, imagine that, but the selection was good if my memory serves me.

Each year for the past two, we've rented from Budget which is located at the Doubletree near Downtown Disney. I used the coupon code on this website and received a pretty good deal. They do come pick you up at Fort Wilderness and will drop you off if need be or you can take a cab.

Just returned from TIA sending DGS, 9yo and 11yo, back to El Paso. We were at FW this past week and rented from Alamo. About $46.00/day and shuttle is available for picking you up and then dropping off.

We use Alamo. If you register your email on their website you will be emailed any specials that they have going on. They usually have some. Also, if you book online there is a discount as well. We use the Alamo at the car care center that is just a few minutes from the fort. They pick you up and take you to get the car and when you turn the car in, they take you back to the fort. We have always gotten great service with them.

Alamo/National/Enterprise are all under one umbrella company and use the same lot of cars near WDW. Enterprise is just the cheapest and does pick up and deliver at your campsite. They are located on Hotel Plaza Blvd. at the Royal Plaza. I am not employed by or receive compensation from Enterprise, but just a satisfied customer. I do not drive to any of the Disney attractions, but rent occasionally to ge to off site locations like Winn Dixie, the closest grocery store left on 535 about a mile from Hotel Plaza Blvd.

Sounds like using a cab might be our best bet. We'll really only need one or two trips out of the park over the thirteen nights we'll be camping there, so renting a car wouldn't make as much economical sense. We'll only need to go to a large grocery store once or twice to replenish the necessary staples, such as milk and bread. Any advice on cab companies to call? I'm assuming they would pick you up right at the registration desk at the front of the Fort?

We usually don't tow a car down with us either, I like to spend a few weeks not driving, especially after the long hours spent getting there. As far as the milk and bread go, we usually just buy it at the trading post. Even though it is more expensive, it is nice not having to deal with leaving the campground. With the beer I usually just stop at Walmart before I get there and stock up. There is also a service that will deliver groceries to you, that may work also.

PS - Do you have room for a stow away, help a fellow Michigander out?
