We are now thinking of renting a car to get to the port from mco and also returning from port to mco. Which car company do you prefer and why? Which company has the best shuttles? Do you reserve before hand? We have a 12:35 flight home. Is that enough time to rent a car and get to the airport in time?

I know, so many questions:) sorry but I could use some advice.

Thanks in advance:thumbsup2

I will answer one of your questions:

Do you reserve before hand?

Yes, definitely. Prices are much lower for reservations ahead of time. Walk up rates could be very high. Check prices now and keep checking as they may drop before your trip. There is no charge for cancelling and rebooking if you book directly with the rental car company.

We are also cruising out of PC in March, flying into MCO. Please note that Budget and Avis are on airport grounds and are very close to the port, so they are good choices. Thrifty is also very close to the port, but it is an offsite rental location from the airport, so depending on your tolerance, you might consider that in your decision making.

We are renting one way (3/15-3/16) before our cruise and then again Easter Sunday when we return, but we'll drop off at the airport that evening when we get back from WDW. The rates are very high, I think, for a single day rental. Interestingly enough, the rate on Easter Sunday is cheaper than the week before.

We are going to be 5 people with luggage for a cruise and 2 overnights (front/back of cruise) so we need to get a minivan. I'm paying $129 on the front and $97 on the back for this. I'll keep checking in the event that the price drops but there aren't a lot of discounts on single day rentals. And the price to keep it for the entire trip (and leave at the hotel) is in the $500 range.

Knowing little about cruising, I ahve a question. Would it be more cost effective to rental the car for the full week in stead of single days and pay for parking at port, or going through the drop off and pick up of the car at the port? :confused3 I am just asking because we are thinking about land and sea for '09.

I have been seeing one day rentals, for about $50. We would acutally only be renting it for about 2 hours just to get back and forth between port and airport. But DCL transportation for 4 people is $276 so renting is a huge savings for us.

Janets-- If you have a Costco membership, try going on their website, click on travel and then car rentals. They have pretty good one day rates.
