i recently cam back from Western Caribbean
I thought Disney transportation was tooooo expensive so I did some research. We flew into Orlando the night before and rented a car which totaled $49 after gas. There were 4 of us.
I had rewards for travel so I had a $25 reward off my rental so it was about $25 total.
On the return we rented another car from Port Canaveral back to Orlando and after some continuous searching and coupon code searching I found a an upgraded rental for $51 total.
Total less than $80 and Disney trans would have been $280
Budget rental going and Avis coming back. We flew in on Friday night so Budget line was a little long and annoying.
On the return it was a breeze. We got shuttle at Port Canaveral to Avis, showed paperwork and on our way in 15 minutes.

Yep. No doubt you got a better deal. For 6 passengers you can even get a stretch limo to take you for the price of DCL transportation. If flying in the day before a rental car is the only way to go. Then you can get to the port and start vacation a day early watching the ships sail out from Grills or Fishlips with a cold drink in your hand. I don't get the whole stay at the airport hotel with nothing to do but one dinky pool just to have DCL transport the next morning.

Yes it would be almost $1,000 to fly in for cruise vs ~$225 to drive down. The decision is easy at that point. When we calculate all the time to fly, the difference is only about 3 hours. It takes just under 10 hours to drive. To fly, we leave the house for the airport 2.5 hours before flight, flight is about 2.5 hours, and another 1.5 hours to get to the resort. For 3 hours each way, it is not about $800.

We're in the same boat. I can make the drive to Orlando/Port Canaveral in about 9 hours. We save about 4 hours travel time each way. But after a couple of trips driving to/from cruise, we always fly now. I know it costs more, but it seems that during the last 2 days of the cruise I start thinking about that long drive home
