Car Rental Services ON Disney Property??

Ok, we've been to WDW 5 times, but we always go from the airport to the WDW property via shuttle (ME or Mears before that) and stay there--we don't leave property at all. This coming year we would like to go to Kennedy Space Center one day. BUT, we don't want to rent a car for a week just to leave for one day! So, is there rental car service ON Disney property? If so, is it SO expensive that it would be cheaper just to get a car for the entire time we are down there?

Another note: After our stay at Disney, we were planning to go back to the airport and rent a car for a few days to go to Clearwater Beach. I'm trying to figure out the most economical way to do all this. Should I just rent a car for the entire time we are there and skip ME all together? I just can't see having a car sit at the resort when we can take Disney transportation everywhere. I'm SO confused!!! Help me experts!!!!!!

There are car rental services at the Swan and Dolphin (I don't recall which) and the Car Care Center. I believe both are Alamo and National.

The Car Care Center will actually send a vehicle to pick you up at your hotel.

Go to either Alamo or National's website and put in the city of Orlando instead of MCO. You'll see all the location options available to you (I think there's also a place to rent near DTD).

You really have to play around on the car sites to determine what your best rate is. A one day rental is much more expensive per day, than a week. Also remember that most places also consider a 5 day rental to be a week, so you get a break there. I always just plug in my dates, and all the options to see which works best for us.

I've done the shuttle to the Car Care center, and it was very easy. There are also other car locations on Hotel Plaxa Blvd, which would entail taking disney transportation to DTD and then walking some.

Thanks for the responses. I'm not going until May 2007 so I have some time to plan (and play) with the car sites. This is the first time I've posted on the Transportation board (I think). Thanks again!!!

In addition to the Alamo/National offices mentioned, Avis and Dollar also have offices on Disney property. Be sure to check their prices too.
