Hello, I am heading to Orlando for 14 days on the 11th June and will be travelling with my parents, brother and one of his friends, and my girlfriend. So 6 people in total.

We want to rent a vehicle big enough for us all and our luggage but want something different to the normal people carrier vehicles if at all possible. Does anyone know where or how to get a large SUV or something interesting to rent for the fortnight? I have tried looking at the main rental companies but I have not found anything as of yet.

ANY information or help would be great!! :earsboy:

Thanks, Rich

I would suggest renting a minvan. They seat up to 7 people and have room for luggage. Prices tend to be around $250 with all taxes per week. Try www.mousesavers.com for discount ideas on rental cars. Click on transportation there.

BTW, I lived in High Wycombe, England for a year in the mid 80's. I also played ice hockey for the Oxford hockey club. I was on the Oxford City Stars, Oxford City Satellites, and the Oxford City Comets (under 16 team). I loved Oxford.

Cheers for the info Duds. I was looking for something a bit different to a mini-van but it looks like a mini-van might be the way to go if we can't find a large SUV or something else to rent. Just that with our time in Houston, TX we have very much enjoyed large SUV's before. But they are the norm around those parts, guess it isn't the same in FL.

I actually live down on the South Coast in a place called Bournemouth but am here in Oxford for uni (Oxford Brookes). :)

I was renting my mini-van yesterday. I was looking into larger vehicles also because we will have 7 passengers plus luggage. There were a few companies that rented Suburbans (8-seater, large SUV). I believe it was either National and/or Alamo or Thrifty. They were very expensive. Try their websites and look for 8-passenger seating.

Thanks Christine. I've had a look and out of the three I think Thrifty is the only one that might offer what we're looking for. On National and Alamo they either don't list 8 seater 4x4's or if they do, when I go to select them they say they are sold out/ not available.

Thrifty do have the Dodge Durango though - this seems to be listed as a 7 seater. Can you shed any light on this? We would love to rent a Suburban but I havn't managed to find any available online. Maybe it will take a phone call to see if it is possible.

A Dodge Durango is a large SUV but probably offers no more room than the Dodge Grand Caravan (minivan). The Suburban is definitely bigger. I will check around and see if I can find it again.

Okay Rich, I found it. It is through Alamo. www.alamo.com. If you go to Alamo's home page they don't actually list it in their fleet. But go through the motions of making a reservation. Type in your dates and pick up and drop off at "MCO" which is the airport in Orlando. After you do all that, a screen will come up listing the available cars. For my days (6 days in June), the SUV was at the bottom and showed a base rate of $396.00 for that time period. That was without any coupons typed in.

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much Christine. I have found the problem though - listing the UK as my country of residence it does not list the large SUV. Not sure if this is something that can be worked out with a phone call or not but I will try.

Again thanks for your help, this is at least a step forward.

Rich :)

Well, that's certainly weird. Maybe Alamo thinks that people from the UK cannot drive a Suburban? :confused3

I once rented a full sized Ford F-150 Supercrew pickup truck at Orlando Airport from Budget. 6 passenger and a locking bed cover, talk about a huge trunk.

Yeah maybe so!! We did rent a Yukon in Houston though so it must be possible I would think. I'll let you know any information I find out. Thanks again.

OK, well we're sorted now! Thank you for your input Christine. We have managed to get a large SUV (either a Yukon, Tahoe, Expedition or Suburban) from Enterprise for about $1500 for the two weeks.

Has put the icing on the cake for me!!

Thanks once again for your help,

Rich :goodvibes
