Car rental question

Going to WDW in July and am unsure about which category to go for. We usually take a mini van for 4 -7 of us but this year our party will only be 5 for the Orlando part of our trip - only four going to the Gulf coast for the first week with DDs bf joining us later. The question is - although we like the space of the minivan, US rentacar are doing a free upgrade from full size to premium (Mercury Grand Marquis or similar) making quite a saving on the cost of a minivan for a month. Would the premium car be adequate for 5 adults + luggage - particularly thinking of the last day when we all go the the airport? Another option might be to take the premium car for the Gulf period (we pick up the car from MCO) and change the car to the minivan when we pick up the bf from MCO.

There is so much experience on these boards that I felt it might be worth asking for your thoughts before making a final decision.

I reckon you'd find it a bit of a squeeze for 5 adults plus luggage. That having been said, if you're only making 1 or 2 trips fully laden could people in the back have some luggage on their laps if needed?

Also, depends on the size of you luggage, we've had fun and games in the past when we've had large solid cases, but with smaller soft cases you can sometimes squeeze more into the boot.
