Car Rental Question

Just some questions about car rental as I've never rented a car before.

Our tentative plan is to go to Disney for 5-7 days and then rent a car. Is there anywhere at Disney to rent a car or would we have to get a taxi and go to a car rental agency from there?

And.... as Canadians............ is there anything I should know about renting a car - ie insurrance, those hidden costs, etc.

OR...............is it cheaper to rent the car at the airport, drive to disney, and park it for 5-7 days.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Sorry, but I am a little confused. Are you going somewhere after Disney? If you are flying into Orlando airport there are many car rental agencies there. If you have a gold credit card and pay for your rental with it you will have additional insurance coverage provided by them. If you need a car after Disney there is a national agency somewhere on property. You are required to have additional insurance coverage.

We have rented cars from Orlando Airport using Hertz, Budget and Alamo.

Alamo was the cheapest, but the get what you pay for. They were off site and EVERYONE rents Alamo so the bus to the car is packed. You are dragging your luggage to the Alamo bus and then to the counter and car. I won't use them again. (compact car)

Budget is in the airport, but then you deal with having to navigate yourself out of the airport and it's a big circle around the airport. (Ford Windstar Van)

Hertz was off site, no line for the bus, totally pleasant experience with a great discount deal! (Ford Explorere SUV).

We are debating whether to rent off site or on for April trip. dh likes Hertz and off site. I like on site for timing upon return. I am considering Dollar on site in April.

Insurance is usually covered by your own insurance, give your broker a call.

We rented thru Alamo-never again by the way! Our car insurance here did not cover rentals however our insurance agent here was able to sell us rental car insurance for use on our trip! A couple of reasons why I liked this 1) we were buying in canadian dollars-28.00 each for the whole trip! 2) we knew we were not getting ripped off, no hidden charges ect, once there we were able to just decline everything offered to us! The insurance agent provided us with the paperwork and we just took it with us! On our trip we rented our car as soon as we arrived and then ended up just having it parked at our disney hotel for 5 days as we found the buses so convienent, we ended up only using it for seaworld and universal. My plan for our next trip is to arrange transportation from airport to disney and use the buses, when we need to go to universal and kennedy space station then we will get a car from national on-site, no use paying for it if were not going to use it! Hope this helps!

This is something that a friend of mine did : over the Internet, she reserved a car at each of the major companies. No credit card number needed! She then checked each site weekly for specials. 5 days before leaving, she cancelled all but the cheapest reservation!
