I noticed the thread about car rental for this fall. Brand new to this board but I was experiencing the same uptick in prices for our late November/December trip and I took the plunge and made my first priceline bid. I was wondering if there are any things I should look out for when picking up the car - do they tack on extra charges if you are late picking up? Kind of anxious but it's too late now. I would love to hear from anyone with Priceline experience. Thanks

I use priceline for almost all my car rentals. I have never had a problem. When you get to the counter, they will try to upsell you, as they would with anyone. But I have never had extra fees tacked on or anything. I haven't had a bad experience yet. (knock on wood!)

I have used Priceline for lots of hotels, but have never done the car rental. I do plan on using them for our upcoming trip though!

We have never had any problems with the hotels. We usually have better experiences with Priceline because we get a more expensive hotel at a price we can afford.... we have never been dissappointed.

I'm looking for a rental car next month and have NEVER had any success using priceline. What's a good rule of thumb in getting offers accepted when it comes to using them?

Last week I bid $11 for a standard size car Sept 23-29 and was accepted first bid. I got hertz.

This was my first time on Priceline. I started at $17 and they accepted $20/day, 212 total. I have been seeing prices a lot lower on some of these posts than anything I was able to find using codes and coupons so that's why I tried priceline -- even hotwire was $37/day.

Plan on only one driver. I've found that if you're doing a Priceline bid rental, they won't waive additional driver fees, even for a spouse.

I was accepted on my 1st bid for $12 for a full-sized car through Priceline and ended up with Hertz. I also used Priceline at SLC this past summer and had no problems. All car rental companies will try to upgrade you or have you add extra insurance when you pick up your car, but check with your local auto insurance carrier before you leave. You're most likely already covered for rentals, and at most they might have you tack on some additional coverage for the time you're away on vacation. That usually amounts to a few dollars which is a lot cheaper than purchasing insurance through the rental agency.

I just got a mid-size for $11 bid (plus $3 from Priceline... some coupon sale thing they're having today). Got Alamo. I have another rental for later in the week through Priceline that was $9 per day (plus another $3 Priceline coupon sale thing a few months back) through Hertz. So we'll be playing the Rental Car shuffle, but that's ok- we're saving a buck or two. :goodvibes

When you use priceline what kind of guidelines do they indicate? For example I'm looking at next month Wed-Sun and was wondering about mileage and other items they price or do not price in the bid.
