If I arrive at MCO at 5:35 PM on a Sat. and return to MCO on Fri. for a 12:00 PM flight home, is this considered a week rental? Is there a penalty for dropping off before 5:35 PM on Friday if I picked the car up at 5:35 PM on the previous Sat.? I have read that you must check each rental company's policies but I didn't know if some policies are standard (like pick and drop off time penalties). Thanks for any and all help.

With Alamo a week is 5 days or more. As far as a penalty. When renting a car every 24 hours you have a car is concidered a day so from 5:30 p.m on Sat to 5:30 p.m on Sun. is concidered one day. Since you are turning your rental in before 5:30p.m you will still be billed for a full day.
If you see a coupon for $25 off a weekly rental you can still take advantage of it since the rules of the coupons state that the minimum rental length is 5 days.

Best thing to do is do a reservation and see if your times fit in with the "weekly" rate.
From the times you have stated here, it looks like you will qualify for a weekly rate. I just plugged in your times and it went through as a weekly rate. This was with Alamo.
