Great advice given in post above!
It does take time and nobody likes doing it. I just looked into a rental for spring break in Arizona. I used the Costco discount and coupon on their website for
Avis. Got a 9 day rental for $246 for a Ford Fusion or similar which I was happy with...BUT I will keep checking every month and then every week starting in March. There is no charge to book/rebook a car reservation. I always make sure I cancel the old after booking the new one.
Check often in the week before rental...for this summer I found my
Alamo rate dropped about $60 in the days before. And sometimes it was a few times a day...maybe just $3-$5 at a time but I sure took the cheaper rate. It was fun to see the rate go down.
1. Rent on the hour if possible rather than the half hour.
2. Go to
www.mousesavers.com and see the discount codes there that are legit. Also at
www.fatwallet.com in the travel forum there is a whole matrix of rental car discounts BUT some of those can be iffy. NEVER use one that includes insurance unless you qualify for it.... BE PREPARED to show your Costco or BJ's or Sam's club card. I was asked for a Costco card by Alamo in Phoenix about 3 years ago.....
3. I found that it was cheaper to rent offsite and return to the airport...know this might not be possible in some cases. In Phoenix my family can pick me up at airport...take me to rental car place offsite and I saved over $200...if rate is lower a cab ride from airport might be worth it if savings is great.
Try finding some rates on your own and then maybe people can see if there is something better. List your car size and what code you used. It is kind of hard to expect someone to find a car for your vacation......

. Use the advice here and the excellent post above and you should be able to come up with a good rate!
