car rental for 8?

checked on alamo they said a toyota sienna is large enough for 8
people plus luggage? we have :

3 adults
2 15 yr old boys
1 14 yr old girl
8 yr old boy
5 yr old girl

would we fit? this seems to be the biggest van they have any other suggestions?

Hmm, my MIL and SIL both have Siennas and 7 is a tight fit. I would make sure that they have a bench seat in the second row otherwise you'll never fit. Also, the 5 year old will need to be in a booster which takes up room. I checked on Alamo and they didn't list the Sienna - they have the Uplander that only seats 7.

Did you get a good rate? Sometimes it is cheaper to get 2 cars.

There are a lot of companies that rent the extended vans that fit up to 12 or 15 people. I saw a ton of them around when we were in Orlando a few weeks ago.

The Sienna comes in both seven and eight passenger versions. It's quite cozy with eight; especially if you have to have the rear seat as far forward as it will go to allow enough space in the rear for luggage. It should work if they will guarantee that you get the eight-passenger version, but the rental companies are not usually able to guarantee a specific make/model unless that's a feature they offer for an added cost.

Rent two cars - usually cheaper and gives your more flexibility.

I just booked a full size SUV from alamo, it says it seats 8, we have 7 adults/teens. Using the Costco codes and coupon (I am a member) it was about $280 for a week with taxes and fees, and the coupon. Not GREAT, but only about $20 more than the minivan, so maybe we will have a little more room.

We may send some family members on ME (the 21 and 19 year old sons).

I have a Sienna and can't imagine fitting 8 people plus luggage! whew!
We went on a day trip to the beach with my parents and it was full but not uncomfortable. That was 4 adults, 2 kids, beach chairs, sand toys, tote bags, small cooller,etc. Nothing nearly as large as luggage though.
I'd get 2 cars IMHO. Probably around the same price.
