We're flying in to Sanford Orlando Airport and I was thinking of renting a car to get us to the Beach Club that day. Then returning it to the Dolphin the following day. Its expensive! Like $125 for 1 day...that's crazy.

Anybody have any advice? I've used codes but they usually don't work with the 1 day rental. At this point, its cheaper to get a town car service.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you are looking at a rental that is a few months away. The closer to your trip that you look for a car the cheaper it will be TRUST me.

Considering that a cab will be about $100 plus tip from Sanford and a car service will be more than that, it still might not be a terrible choice even at that price. If you can get it for less closer to the date it probably will save you money.

I have a one day (standard car) scheduled through National with a pickup at MCO and a drop off at FLL the next day... $57 including taxes & fees.

That's the rate I got when I signed in as an Emerald Club member.

This is for June.

One thing to look at too is whether the one day rental is within 24 hours or not. Even if you return it the next actual day, but the rental is longer than 24 hours, it's essentially a two-day rental. If you play with rate quotes online you'll likely see the price quote may be the same for a two day rental as it is for a rental that is between 24 an 48 hours long.

For example, a Friday 12 noon to Saturday 12 noon rental is one day and will be priced less. A Friday 12 noon to Saturday 6pm rental is more than one day (even though it's the next day of the week) and will be priced more.

I have a one day rental booked through Budget from MCO to Cape Canaveral and I am only paying $39 total with taxes. My trip is for end of November and I used code Y937800

I was going to suggest Budget with this code also. We also do a one-way from Port Canaveral. You can return the car at the Doubletree near DTD.

Thank you to all the replied. I went on National & enrolled in the as a Emerald Club member and the quote came down to $60....Thank you thank you sam_gordon! I think we'll probably just do one day and then rent 1 day for the ride back to the airport. We're staying at the Beach Club so National is just across the lake at the Dolphin. This will be great. Thanks again.

I will keep trying as it gets closer...maybe it will come down even more. But if not I am happy!

Have a great day!

Who did you rent with? How far in advance did you rent to get that rate?

This is absolutely true - just keep checking daily.

For our 3/12-3/19 rental, I managed to get $150 for a mid size. I got this rate on 3/1. Not the best rate, but it's something I can live with and daily checking hasn't found anything cheaper.
I've also been checking for a friend and a couple days ago got a pick up in New Smyrna Beach 3/17 - drop in FLL 3/19 for $75. Since the one day I got that, I haven't found it less than $200!

Having the $60 rate is good, but still keep looking. Also, know that all the major rental companies can be found either on site or on Hotel Plaza Boulevard near DTD. We have used Dollar Many times for one way rentals to or from the airport.
They are at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Hotel right across the street from the DTD bus stop, so getting there or getting back to the resort is easy.

Good Luck!
Anne

Try returning it to Buena Vista Palace we have gotten better rates returning it there with Alamo/National.

Try dollar. I am renting from SFB to cape Canaveral and got a good rate with their City Specials. Just put in your dates with no codes. Regular Prices will come up and there will be a city special to click in. The city special rates have been changing weekly so just keep trying. Now for my return I've been having a harder time getting a good rate, gonna keep trying!

Just know that Dollar charges a "one-way" fee out of MCO of $20.
