Is there an official thread for this yet? When do you start looking?
Is the wait at the counters horrendous when you get off the plane??

I'm going to keep going in hopes someone will join here soon.

Has anyone added a third driver? I will be doing 99% of the driving. Mainly because my DH drives for a living and does not want to drive on vacation. And I love driving.

I'm thinking of adding my father in law on as my second driver in case my husband, him, and my kids want to take off alone. (Which they often do)

However if the weather is bad I would want my Hubby to drive.

Generally, the best rates for car rentals are found about a month before your travel dates. Keep looking in the mean time as occasional deals may pop up. If you book a standard reservation (not pre-paid), you can cancel and rebook as much as you want without penalty. As to the rental counters being crowded, it depends on the date/time of arrival. If you join one or more of the rental companies clubs, you can skip the counter and go directly to your vehicle.

National and Alamo are the two I have used that have the arrangement to bypass the counter.

Thanks will look out for them for sure!

I'm going to be renting at the end of my Disney stay to drive to the Keys. I've been pricing things here and there, but no great deals yet.

I need a minivan for Feb, so I'm starting to watch prices. But nothing great is showing up yet.

People add many additional drivers. Each one cost approx. 10.00 per day.
Bad weather, in Fl? LOL, the most you will see is rain.
Alamo and National have programs to help you avoid the counter. National's is Emerald Club and Alamo's is Insiders. Both are free to join and both outline the programs on the respective web sites. Alamo's allows one additional driver free. National's is a bit different and too long to post here.
mousesavers.com has a lot of coupons and codes, but, you are looking a bit early for any discounts. Better that you wait until Dec. for those. But, join those programs and read the rules soon, so you will be familiar with them. Happy planning. :)

I booked my rental car for Feb 2014 in April, just like I did last year. I haven't been able to match the rate again. I used to have luck day of to 30 days out, but it seems not to be so anymore. I have noticed the airport has gotten much higher in recent years than on property rentals.

Yes rain and night driving are a no go for me. I already am an Alamo insider :-)

That depends on the week. We travel on President's week and the rental rates only go up and often sell out so I wouldn't wait.

To the OP, a fellow DIS poster shared the following budget code with me: BCD X474200

I'm not sure if it still works but i got a great deal on a small SUV 8 weeks ago (for next Feb) using it.

Yes, that's why I stated "generally" at the beginning of my reply. Holiday periods (such as President's week) would be obvious exceptions. I find that the best plan of action is to book the best rental car rate you can find once your travel dates are set, then keep checking for better deals right up until your trip. My experience with this is that a month or so out, under most circumstances, yields the best deals.

Who are you renting from? I was thinking it would be most convenient if I rented through one of the companies at the Car Care Center since I need my car very early in the morning on 2/7. What are you doing?

Bumping and also looking for a minivan rental for mid Feb to early March. Have not found any good rates - always hovering around $1000 for 13 days.

There is another February thread that was being updated through this past week. This being bumped from a few months back, there may be something for you in there.

The best discount code for car rental Feb 2014 is --- VO5013, corporate discount code -- Dollar Rental Car

Do you need to show dollar rental counter some proof of " something" if you use this code? With my husband's corp. Code, we have to bring his name badge with us places (Dells/etc) to prove his corp. Code is legit. Just wondering, because I'd love to use the code. Rate is much lower with it. I just checked.
