Car rental, car seat question...Please help!

So... I am thinking about renting a car for our next trip.... I will need a car seat for my 3 year old. I do not want to bring ours, and if I remember correctly...it is like 10 bucks a day to rent one from the car rental company
Anyone have a less expensive answer??????

Those are the only 2 answers I know. We always bring ours. We rented once and it was gross. Often most airlines let you check the carseat/booster with you luggage at no additional cost, so you don't have to worry about it at the airport. Can you just get one of those cheaper booster type seats? ($19 at Big lots) and just leave it behind if you don't want it when you're done? (at the airport since you would need it to get to the airport)

Here's the big question, would you drive at home with him not in a car seat? If the answer no, then yes you should bring your car seat. The laws are a little more lax in FL then some states, but I know I wouldn't imagine putting a 3 year old in a car without a car seat, and I'm not even a parent.

Of course NOT!! Never, ever. She is also not old enough for just a booster. I was just wondering if anyone knew of a less expensive rental option. Lugging the car seat through the airports is not exactly easy, therefor I would like to rent... just looking for cheaper options!

FYI -- you don't have to lug it through the airport. You can check it with your regular checked bags. We travel with our grandkids 3 times a year and we are use to dealing with carseats and strollers. We gate check the strollers, but baggage check the carseats. (My GD are 5 and 3, so 2 carseats/boosters for us).

Ohhhhh good idea! See, I never thought of that!! Hahaha!! The last 3 times we took a car seat, she sat in it in the airplane! So we had to lug it around, you should have seen me trying to jam it through the scanner at security What a pain in the you know what!!
I am glad that I asked, and even more glad that you answered!! Sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious!!!! (To me anyway)

I wouldn't check carseats with luggage. After seeing how luggage is tossed around, I'd be afraid that the car seat would get damaged.

We bought DS a Cosco Scenera car seat that we use just for travel. It was about $50 at Target. It's lighter and smaller than our Britax Marathon, so it's not that much of a pain to bring it through the airport and on the plane with us. Plus, DS usually falls asleep once the plane takes off - not sure if he'd do that without the car seat.

When my older two kids were small, we lugged two Britax Roundabouts through the airport on many trips. Traveling with one small carseat seems like a breeze now compared to that.

I have used this feature several times now and sure, the car seat may not be as nice as your personal one, but it's much more convenient not to have to carry one of your own.
