I am currently planning a DL trip for this October and have a question concerning car rentals.

We are planning to visit the San Diego zoo during our stay and I've noticed on the Disney website that you can book a trip to the zoo through Disney that includes transportation. I was thinking I could probably rent a car for the same cost or cheaper on my own rather than use Disney transportation. Can you rent a car from the DL resort area or is there a car rental agency close by?

Also, has anyone done the zoo trip through DL? What was it like?

Thanks in advance.

Denise

<font color=navy>You have a few options for getting down to the San Diego Zoo...

You can arrange transportation through the Walt Disney Travel Company.

You can rent a car - the WDTC has an office in Downtown Disney & you can book a car through them, or you can use a car rental in the area. I know some hotels have car rental agencies adjacent or part of their service in the area.

Another option is to grab a cab (nominal fee) to Amtrak station & take the train down to San Diego & go to the zoo - it's about $48 round trip. You can also arrange this through WDTC if you wish.

I haven't done the zoo trip through DL, so I can't help you there (sorry).

We rented our minivan thru Budget Rent a Car, which is a short walk from our hotel, the Anaheim Hilton. (Get the exact address on their website -- I forget.) We picked up the car at 10am and were at the SD Zoo by 12:30pm.

We did this on a Sunday, so traffic wasn't bad at all. Some of the hotels have rental car agencies, but since we were picking up the car on a Sunday, they weren't open. For instance, Marriott has Hertz, and Hilton has National or Enterprise; however, neither of them are open on Sundays. Our minivan rental cost $116 for 3 days.

We didn't arrange this excursion through WDW Travel.

You could always call Enterprise Rent A Car, and they can pick you up at your hotel, and after returning your car to their office, they will bring you back to your destination.
You can get some good deals on their website.
