Car rental and name on drivers licence

I'm a Norwegian citizen that lives in the UK. I've gotten married here and changed my name, but my licence is in my maiden name. Can I still book a car in my old name, or will that cause problems? I can't just change my name on the licence as I don't live in Norway any more, and to change it here, I'll have to take a full road test, which is out of the question at the moment.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but are you sure you need to take a test. My husband passed his test in Spain, on returning to live in the Uk he had to give up his Spanish licence and it was replaced with a UK licence. I thought you needed a UK licence to get insurance, having said this, it was a number of years ago.
The difficulty we have is that neither of us have a photo card driving licence just a paper one so we take our passports when collecting a car. Not sure if you need a passport if you have a photo on your driving license.

My problem is that I got my first licence in USA, and had it changed to a Norwegian one, so there's a note on it saying it was originally issued in USA, so they won't swap it for me, even though I had to do a full road test to change it to the Norwegian one

i'm not sure that i understand the problem..
you have a valid drivers license, yes?
so you rent the car in the name that's on your license...
what's the issue?
